Sheri was a fantastic host - she made us feel totally welcome and at home from the very beginning. The house is even bigger and nicer than it looks in the pictures. We had a lovely time hanging out with our friends, cooking, and exploring the area. We had 3 very small children with us between two families and the house was perfect for them. The downstairs movie room was awesome and served as a playroom where we could throw on some cartoons and they could just spread out with their toys and play when it rained. The river is beautiful and we slept really well with the sound of rushing water constantly. A great retreat away from every day life! Definitely go here if you are in the mood for some nature and relaxation.
Sheri was so easy to work with and very amenable as we prepared for our visit. We had to change our originally scheduled date and she was patient and worked with us to get rebooked. I would definitely recommend this lovely home in such a serene location.
Sheri is the perfect host and has an amazing home. Perfectly located in CT. Our stay couldn't have been any better. When back in CT, we know where to stay!!
Sheri was a very friendly, helpful host and the house itself far exceeded our high expections! Sheri welcomed us into her home enthusiastically and warmly, setting the positive, happy tone of our visit. She communicated with us and answered questions beforehand, plus gave us a thorough tour of the house when we arrived. Unbelievably, the house looks better in real life than in the photos. It is architecturally stunning, with lots of beautiful wood, high ceilings, many decks and large windows all looking out to the gorgeous view of the rushing river and woods. It is at the end of the road, so is very private. The beautiful gourmet kitchen is well stocked and easy to use. It is in the heart of the home and accomodates several cooks at once. While in the kitchen, one can enjoy views from every direction and easily visit with those not on cooking duty. The huge dining table overlooking the river adjoins both the kitchen and comfortable living room, and is the perfect place to eat with a group, play board games, or serve as laptop central. We listened to music on the sound system and also played our own music on the provided keyboard and the several stringed instruments we brought along. We enjoyed watching DVD movies on the big screen downstairs and we also streamed Netflix movies and shows on the living room TV. Although we didn't use it, the impressive exercise room rivals many gyms! We stayed in the house over Christmas, and enjoyed the fresh, crisp air and crunch of leaves as we took walks along the river and on the path through the woods. The day after Christmas, we were treated to snow! I cannot describe the peaceful beauty of watching the snowflakes gently fall while we played games on the massive dining table. What fun it was to trek through the snow that afternoon, all the way to the nearby adorable town of Collinsville! Things to note: There are three half baths but only one shower. This was not a problem for the six of us, but something to be aware of. Also, the sleeping arrangements are a little unusual, so just be aware of the layout: There is one room with a queen sized bed, one room with two queen sized beds, plus there is a loft area with a daybed and the sofa in the living room can also serve as a bed. All the rooms are large and could easily accomodate an airbed. For more privacy, an airbed could be placed downstairs. We loved our stay, miss the home already, and hope to return!
I contacted Sheri while searching for a restful and welcoming home to serve as a base camp for my CT wedding. It proved to be perfect for myself, my fiance, in-laws and 2 kids. When we weren't grilling veggies on the deck, we were enjoying the swing overlooking the river or visiting with family.
Having lived in Avon, I knew some of the treasures of nearby picturesque Collinsville - "One of America's 10 Coolest Small Towns" - the LaSalle Market is a great place for lunch and the antique shops are fun for a stroll. The River (formerly Rail) Trail is great for bicycling and walking, and kayaking and canoeing are at your doorstep. Above all else, listening to the sound of the Farmington River was a real treat and the views from the house are spectacular.
This home, for us, was perfect for a leisurely cup of tea in the morning, a kid movie in the downstairs theater in the evening, and a lot of good company in-between.
Thanks so much for a wonderful stay, Sheri!
Had a wonderful stay at Sheri's riverside. No complaints at all! The outside is great, plenty of space, and great activities to do around the whole house. Sheri is an amazing host and funny also.
I can not say enough about staying at Shari's riverside cabin. We had a three day work retreat there and it never felt like work thanks to the roaring river that barked relaxing vibes our way. We cooked and grilled every night as there was no reason to leave our zen like pad. Great hiking trail along the river that pops you out a tavern a town over about an hour later. Sheri even provided headlamps so we wouldn't fall in the river on the way home. Well played, Sheri.
if you want a gracious, kind and responsive host who can meet any of your needs - you need to meet Sheri. She's as charming as the cabin she built with her own hands.
I highly recommend renting this place. Especially if you need to clear your head or fill your belly with beers along a roaring river.
We had a wonderful stay at Sheri's unique river home. Our party consisted of two couples, each with young kids, and the house was plenty spacious for us all. Even though it's in a quiet natural setting, the house is really well built and equipped with modern comforts like central air, excellent kitchen appliances (viking cooktop and ovens), wi-fi, and a washer and dryer.
The dining room has a huge solid wood table and adjoins to a deck with a small outdoor grill as well. Perfect for cooking, eating, and relaxing.
There are nice hiking areas nearby and multiple story decks on the river-facing side of the house, so you can just sit and watch the water flow by.
One of the reasons we chose Sheri's place b/c it was halfway between New York and Boston, where we are all from, so location-wise it is ideal if you are in a similar situation.
Sheri is a very friendly, welcoming, and professional host. We had an amazing time in her beautiful house. We highly recommend her riverside retreat.
The house is as lovely as the photos and the water views magnificent. We have moved away from Connecticut and returned for a wonderful, truly memorable Thanksgiving with our family and friends who were also able to enjoy the comforts of this place and the beauty of nature from every window and balcony. We loved it! Sheri was available for questions and suggestions. It is a great place to stay and not too far out, easy drive to quaint New England towns. Perfect for our family holiday.
