I am at Stanford, and am currently working on several projects involving tech, political psychology, and neuroscience; I travel frequently for academic or political reasons. Given how much my travel schedule changes, I value flexibility in arranging, as I occasionally need to extend or truncate a stay.
When I'm not in California or traveling, I'm usually in Arizona. I've also lived overseas, in England and elsewhere, and have variously worked as a music journalist and US Senate staffer before.
I love reading - anything from Tolstoy to the backs of cereal cartons - and I love finding great restaurants in the cities I visit. I'm very fond of French and Japanese food, but am generally an adventurous eater. I'm a regular at movie theaters; my favorite films include Cool Hand Luke, Dirty Harry, Blue Velvet, and Star Wars. More esoteric interests include the plays of Jean Racine, Cormac McCarthy's novels, and analytic philosophy, especially Wittgenstein. I tend to wear sportcoats.
I am quiet, and am not particularly fond of very loud areas. I'm sociable, but value privacy in which to work and sleep. I do not smoke or drink, and will not bring visitors. I am also likely to be out of the apartment/house for much of the day. Air conditioning or other means of making my room cold at night are especially desirable.
I am most easily reached at my email address, and generally prefer being contacted that way, as my phone is often on silent, and exploring my voicemails takes forever. If you'd like to talk to me by phone, it's usually quickest if you email me with vague idea of when you're free so we can set up a call.
