Un accueil sympathique dans un cadre très agréable. La petite maison est propre et confortable. Ce lieu est un point de départ idéal pour rayonner autour d'Akumal. Merci à nos hôtes pour leurs conseils sur les sites à visiter durant notre séjour.
Comfortable, modern and very good studio. Hard to find but once you are there no more wories))) Fabian was helpful host, provided all you need or might need later.
Thank you very much
Camp Akumal: Take a Walk on the Jungle Side
We stayed at Camp Akumal for almost 5 weeks this winter and didn’t want to leave when it was time to return to the winter cold of home. We have been to the Riviera Maya many times, but this was our first time to stay “jungle-side” of 307, and we were not disappointed. We did not miss being on the beach, mainly due to the wonderful hospitality of the hosts, Dana and Fabian, and their beautifully cool and refreshing pool! The one bedroom apartment was perfect for our needs. (There are six apartments at Camp Akumal, a 3 BR in progress, (2) 2 BR, (2) 1 BR and a studio.) Ours was well-equipped with everything necessary for the kitchen, and had plenty of towels and linens. Dana and Fabian were receptive to any requests we had, including prompt replies to our emails before our arrival. They made sure we had a detailed map of where they were located, and had maps and lots of advice and experience of what to see and do in the area. Since they and their children live in the house right at Camp Akumal, we were never on our own trying to figure things out. The maid, Jessica, cleaned the apartment at our convenience once a week, and Luis took care of the fantastic pool and grounds on a daily basis. We did not have a rental car the entire time. We walked eight minutes to the highway and easily caught a colectivo to visit the many beaches and cenotes along 307, or we biked into Akumal a few times. The camp was so peaceful and relaxing that some days we never left the grounds. We lounged on our private deck, swam in the pool, napped in the hammock, and went biking, walking and running in the Rancho San Martin neighborhood (this is where Camp Akumal is located). And the birds! If you like birds, this is a great place to be: toucans, parrots, motmots, orioles, warblers, vireos, hummingbirds, woodpeckers, trogons and more! The WiFi worked very well so we were never out of touch from family back home, and was handy to have since there is no TV. Instead, we used Netflix and news apps to stay connected. We had such a positive experience staying here that we’ve already booked more time for next winter!
Fabian is a fabulous host and camp Akumal, though not walking distance from the beach, is an pleasant jaunt to the main highway along a dirt road lined with jungle. From the road, collectivos are easy to catch to any desired destination. It cost only 40 total pesos for our family of three to get to the beach (small kids ride free), 50 to Xel Ha, 60 to Tulum and 150 from Tulum to Coba. Our studio apartment was well-organized, wonderfully airy, with choice of fan and/or AC, and very quiet. Plenty of fluffy towels, drinking water and dishes. Single hot plate, one pot, one pan, coffee maker and toaster. Added bonus that my 5yo son found a fun playmate in Fabian's 5yo daughter. Perfect! Queen bed is new and quite firm. Two firm pillows, one soft. Pool area is clean and lovely with lounge and upright chairs. Fabian arranged for groceries to be delivered since we did not have a rental car. Thank you again for a great time in Akumal.
We really enjoyed staying at Camp Akumal for four nights in January 2015. The setting was very peaceful and comfortable. Fabian was a nice host, who provided us with an awesome homemade info packet on arrival with great pointers about things to do and places to eat in the area. We found this extremely useful and referenced it quite a bit. The location was great – a quick drive to many fun spots. Less than 10 minutes away we snorkeled with giant sea turtles in Akumal Bay. We also visited a lagoon and a cenote which were close by as well as did several trips to Mayan ruins (Tulum ( 1 hr) and Coba (approximately 1 hr)).
It was nice to come back to such a comfortable rental to rest and relax after our daytime adventures, in a pretty nature setting. And, it was a plus that the rental was so affordable!!
We often cooked breakfast and dinner in the unit – having the fridge and a supermarket within driving distance was great. Wifi + towels + the cute visiting cat, Marshmellow. We really had a nice stay! Thanks, Fabian + family!
We had a great time at Camp Akumal. This space allowed us to sleep 3 comfortably, and the courtyard and grill were great amenities. Fabian was always helpful - he's happy to give advice and has a great packet describing tried-and-true activities. His (and Dana's) guidance made our days much more enjoyable and saved us the research. Happy to five-star this place!
Sehr schönes Haus in einer gepflegten Anlage mitten im Wald gelegen.
Fabian and his family are extremely nice and welcoming and have a lovely little place in the jungle. The casitas are equipped with the basics and are roomy and airy. The pool was great and clean and the grounds were well-maintained and lovely as well. My daughter loved playing with Fabian's daughter, and we all loved watching the array of birds and animals on the grounds during the day, and the bats at night.
You will definitely need a car to stay here, especially if you are travelling with kids - it is a great base from which to explore the Yucatan if you're not looking to only lay on the beach. That being said, there are a number of very nice beaches very close by and Fabian and his family can give lots of good tips on the best ones to go to. Thanks again Fabian and family!
We had a fantastic time at Camp Akumal! It is perfect for families. Dana and Fabián are really warm and willing to share their insider knowledge. Thanks to a recommendation from them we went to a beach we absolutely loved which I doubt we would have found on our own. The experience is so different and so much more rewarding than staying in a hotel. We spent Christmas dinner with them and another family. Really nice. You need a car of you have kids but adulta can manage without one.
We'll add some more hooks for sure!
Camp Akumal was the perfect retreat for our group! The hosts provide a comfortable, spacious and relaxing poolside setting with all the amenities we could hope to find in the jungle. There was a lovely, laid back and friendly vibe throughout our stay. We loved the pool & grill and took full advantage of the full kitchen, cooking fabulous meals at home instead of blowing our budget at restaurants. We rented a car so it was very easy to get to the beach for snorkeling and to buy freshly caught mahi mahi at the marina, which we grilled for dinner on the bbq grill near the pool later that night. We will definitely come back here for another stay on our next trip to QROO!
