I love to travel & explore the backroads. I'm the type who sees a rutted track in the woods and says, "Hey, where do you think that goes?" I enjoy easy scenic hikes. I'm not interested in getting to the top of a mountain. Wherever I go, I like to hunt for geocaches. It's a recently developed hobby and it takes me places I might not have found otherwise.
Much of the time my dog, Dusty, is right on my heels. He's a 3 year old red heeler who's well-behaved. He loves long walks and watching squirrels, birds and chasing grasshoppers.
There are two things that always make it into my suitcase when I travel. I can't go anywhere without a supply of books to read. I like sitting in my lawn chair and reading for hours with Dusty at my side. I also can't leave home without my camera. My Dad described himself as an environmental photographer and I learned all my habits from him. As my Mom always said, "If it's a two hour trip, allow three or more!"
There are times I travel for work and on those trips, poor Dusty doesn't get to come along. On these trips I not only look for interesting lodging but value is very important. As an employee of the state, my per diem is too small to allow for anything flashy. I like places that are reasonably priced and often being able to cook my own meals is a huge plus!
