It was great experience to stay at Fern's. We loved the location despite the distance from Tromso, its such a beautiful spot, close to nature. We could see the aurora from there and overall just had the best time there. The apartment got everything we needed and we recommend it to everyone looking for a quite time from the city. It was the best place we ever stayed with airbnb.
Apartment is very clean and cosy completely self contained. Great views and saw the Northern Lights from our garden. The bed is so comfortable I struggled to get out of it. We hired a car 4x4 as it was very snowy but worth it 20 mins to main Tromso and 2 mins drive to local supermarket Fern is lovely and let us borrow her DVDs. Lovely break away highly recommend staying here
A lovely, private spot accurately described as being between the fjord and the mountains. The apartment is under the main house giving you independence knowing you won't interrupt Fern and Jay. All facilities are clean, warm, spacious - and beautiful views.
We hired a car to get around and would recommend you do the same to be truly independent. Having said that, the best northern lights I've ever seen were from a few hundred metres up the road. Yes, your far enough away from the lights of Tromsø to get a fairly dark sky. If you need / want a darker sky, take the 862 away from Tromsø across the pass on Kvaløysletta or head to Ersfjordbotn. Both are around a 15 minute drive and also give fantastic views away from city lights.
Lastly, Fern and Jay and helpful and lovely. Do them - and yourself a favour - and ask if there's anything they need from where ever you're flying in from. Tromsø is a big town but it's still limited in what you can buy.
This little apartment was great. Had everything we needed and we enjoyed our two nights there. The furnishings were comfortable and the kitchen was well supplied.
I was welcomed warmly and shown around the apartment which was warm and well equipped. The scenery is quite stunning with views of the fjord and mountains from the apartment, and the neighborhood is quiet and attractive .
We stayed in Fern's house for 7 nights mid-January, which was very reasonably priced. From the moment we stepped into the house, we loved it! It was cozy and warm when it was -10 outside, the cooking facilities were great (and so was the 'pay it forward' stash of dry goods left by fellow travellers) and the view over the fjord was amazing. We saw the lights on 3 out of 7 nights (2 other nights we could see the green glow behind the clouds) so if you're here for that, this is a great place. There is a supermarket close by, about 3.5km, that the bus runs straight to (on weekdays only), otherwise it's a nice walk there and bus back with groceries. If you're unlucky, like us and arrive and/or leave on a weekend, be prepared to either catch a cab to/from the airport or walk from the Eidkjosen bus-stop to the house. Fern let us in and told us if we needed anything to head upstairs and talk to her or Jay, but there's not too much you could want for in this place. We were very happy with it all and loved the seclusion. Would definitely recommend staying here.
As first time users of Airbnb and first time visitors to Norway we were a little cautious but very quickly realised this was unneccessary. Fern & Jay were excellent hosts and their apartment was very warm, cosy & homely. The apartment was clean and had everything we needed for self catering. It proved to be the perfect base for exploring Tromso & the surrounding fjords. We saw the northern lights on our first night literally outside the front door. The whales had moved on from Kaldfjord when we arrived but we saw them by taking a trip to Kattfjord. The bus stopping outside the apartment was a definite bonus for us as we did not hire a car. Changing to a bus into Tromso was easy. There are bus timetables & other visitor information leaflets on the bookcase in the apartment which is very useful. Fern & Jay were also very helpful (especially when we missed getting off at the correct bus stop one morning and Fern rescued us by letting us know!). Many thanks to Fern & Jay for letting us stay, we would highly recommend their apartment.
This place is like a paradise. Fern and her partner Jay are the nicest and best hosts we ever had so far. Gently all the time and so helpful with all our questions. There aren`t so many neighbours but the few we met were also very kind. Fortunately it is a bit outside the town so ther aren`t so many tourists, actually none, except yourselves.
Auroras right in front of the door, pictures tell the truth.
P.s. Don`t forget your security-wests when you come in winter.
It was snowing strongly these days. The way to our entrance door was nicely cleaned from snow. We had a broom to clean the snow from the shoes and the heating was good to dry our snow-wet clothes. Inside it was all very tidy, we got towels on our bed, everything was warm and clean. As we arrived late at night a bit hungry, there was some food left stored in the cupboard, so we could make ourselves a warm good polenta. The place is very nice situated at the side of the Kvaloya-fjord. So we made a adventurous walk with the snowshoes as it was windy and already dark night at 4 p.m. Attention, between Christmas and the next working day the school busses are not running. So the walk to the major busline is 40 Minutes. But the day of department everything was great, we could take the bus just in front of the house. Thank you, Fern for all informations.
Lovely time in Tromsø. I was warmly welcomed by Ferns Husband, Jay, who was informative and interesting to talk to. The home was also warm and very nice to come back to after a long day hiking in their backyard in the cold. You could poke your head out the window and see the northern lights, which was awesome. The bus also stops right in front which was also very helpful.
Huésped muy amable!
Good people, easy to have, left the place spotless. Always welcome....
Fern was such a pleasure having in our apartment. She treated the place like it was her own and we received it back with lovely energy and could barely see that someone had stayed there for a whole month. I will recommend Fern to anyone and hope that she will come back and visit again in the future. Much love and many thanks for such a wonderful experience!
