I am from Slovakia, living in Mexico 8 years already... Loving my life in Tulum.
It was an incredible pleasure to be Giorgio's and Matus' guests. The guesthouse is absolutely gorgeous with great attention given to even the smallest architectural detail. The place exudes serenity and friendliness. There are hammocks all around the property, a fire pit and even a sand beach volleyball area in the back. The pool is finished with beautiful mosaic tiles and has different depths so you can either dive or just soak in shallow water. The rooms and the bathrooms are spectacular, with high-pitched thatched roof, beautiful custom made wood beds and closets and the most exquisite shower/bathtub area. The hosts are extremely warm and welcoming and took great care that we would have the most relaxing time imaginable. We spent a lot of time sitting around the communal table making friends with hosts and other guests. We felt as if we were in our own luxurious home with amazing service and we cant wait to be back!
I had an amazing time at Aqua Viva with Matus! The resort is small and well cared for, so well designed and cared for. I was on my first trip traveling alone, so a bit nervous, but I felt right at home here and very safe. Matus makes an amazing dinner, arranged for kite boarding lessons, and took me on an unforgettable fishing trip. I had such an amazing time, I was so close to changing to my flight so I could stay until the weekend, in fact another couple in the resort while I was there, did change their flight to stay an extra 5 days. I originally booked because I thought the pool would be wonderful to come to after a long day out, but Aqua Viva is so much more than that, it is truly a special place and I cannot wait to come back and experience more of Tulum with them. Maybe next weekend??
We loved the space, great architecture and this was only improved by Giorgio and Matus on-site, who made our stay a great one. The room was beautiful, with the walkin shower being a highlight and the swimming pool and hammocks on the doorstep made our stay a great one. We were treated to Matus preparing a great fish dish for us and although it is located at the far-end of town, you have one of the best fish restaurants in Tulum on your doorstep, El Camelo. Aqua Viva provided us with a cool breeze throughout the day and a place to meet new people in the evening, not a party place but certainly a social zone. After we left to go to a beach location, we often found ourselves pooping in to see the guys and get advice on the local area, thanks again
As soon as I walked into this quasi-short term boutique residence I knew i was in for an experience of a lifetime. I know it sounds excessive but Matus and Georgio are not interested in giving you a place to sleep. They capture the local way of life perfectly and want you to experience the same. I arrived with a to-do list that immediately went out the window and quickly found myself unwinding in the comfort of their garden, pool, hammocks, firepit and even the kitchen where we spent most of our time lounging.
Various local friends would come around and join the social vibe including a well known artist who uses the space to paint, a dive instructor who ended up taking us cenote cave diving the following day, fishermen who stop by to sell their catch of the day and offer to take you out on their boat, friends who own and operate beach hotels with private access to mangrove cenotes which I kayaked in one day, among others including the other cool guests who come from all over.
The aesthetic modern design combines a traditional local architecture. Inside each of the 4 main rooms / residences you'll find a semi-outdoor hot water rain shower as large as your bedroom and an extremely comfortable and spacious king bed. There are also two very small rooms with a shared bathroom - one with a bunk bed the other a full / double size. I had booked the full size but quickly swapped into one of the larger rooms which was well worth the rate increase.
I don't need to remind you this is Mexico so you will hear barking stray dogs, chirping birds, and minor road traffic noise anywhere you go and this is no different. I chose to stay on the power grid in the pueblo with easy access to the beach via taxi or whether someone offered to give me a lift. I'm not a yogi or vegan which tend to dominate most of the beachside constituency but I had some great adventures in the evenings at the beautiful bars and restaurants there before wrapping up with a nightcap and late night swim back at aqua viva.
My trip ended with me accidentally leaving my wallet at a beach bar and Georgio driving me down personally to retrieve it before he negotiated a reasonable rate for a taxi to get me to the airport in time for my flight.
I've made some great new friends and hope you get to experience the same retreat I did.
Our stay at Aqua Viva Tulum was fabulous! The minimalist architecture is beautiful, very modern and peaceful. We were four people and stayed in the suites #2, which contains 2 double bedrooms. The space is big, the rooms are clean and have an uncluttered style. The bathroom is huge and contains a double shower that has an open roof- one feels like bathing outside! Giorgio and Matus were great hosts and made us feel at home. They were discreet but present in case of anything we might have required. During our three-day stay, we enjoyed mojitos in the hammocks, had long talks by the fire place and shared an amazing meal cooked by Matus: fresh fish caught in the morning, smoked in banana leaves. Honestly, the four of us felt like we were spending a great time at our vacation house, with service included!! Don't hesitate to book your stay at Aqua Viva- the place speaks for itself. We will definitely come back soon! Thanks again!!
Great stylish brand new hotel. Very nice and clean. The suites are big with your own private out door showers or jacuzzi. The feel reminds me something of the standard hotel spa in miami meets bali. Beautiful simple architecture. Very modern and hip but peaceful and very private. Tucked away in a neighborhood downtown Tulum, walking distance to bars/restaurants. The owner Gorgio And the host Matus were nice and relaxed people. Matus cooked great fish one of the nights and we all drank and danced some salsa with another couple that was staying there from Vienna.
Definitely recommend this place to friends and couples.
Realy nice place quite and nice hoste.
Matus was a great host! Really nice, outgoing guy who apparently can cook a killer meal.
The place is like a Balinese getaway had a great time. Thanks
Aquaviva captures the essence of Tulum: minimal style. It is new, modern, peaceful, and quiet. Yet at times, in the shared space, at a long table, there are cool beats playing and plenty of international conversation over great wine (and Dos Equis too!) One night there was local live music. They were jamming some eclectic beats.
The owner, who lives there, is gracious and professional. Matus, the host, who also lives there, is helpful and ready to grill delicious local fish and tasty meats. The food and drinks are reasonably priced; you may never want to leave. You can sit by the pool, chill in the yard on a hammock, or sit in a beanbag and watch a movie. Eventually though, of course, you’ll take the 15-minute ride to the beautiful beach and ruins.
We stayed in one of the super small rooms. It was basically the size of the bed, but it was worth the experience. The typical, much larger rooms offer style, comfort and privacy. Aquauviva didn’t fee like a hotel to me. It felt like an experience, like a B&B experience sort of. Everyone I met there was interesting and cool. It attracts the right kind of people. It is a romantic place, but I would definitely go there with my close friends too.
I can’t wait to go back!
