Excellent and easily accessible location for visiting all over DC. The apartment is eclectic and artistic, providing ample space for dining-in or a night off relaxing and reading. Henry was readily available to answer any and all questions. Great spot, great host. Would recommend to friends and family.
Our experience started off on the wrong foot, as the listing said there was free parking, and a few days before we arrived Tony notified us that there was no free parking after all. This was an inconvenience, but we ultimately found parking on the street over the weekend. Be careful, as they do ticket cars without a parking permit during the week. Tony was late to meet us for check-in, which was not cool. After these small bumps, we found the flat clean, quiet and plenty of room. Tony even had a few chilled beers waiting for us. The bed was big and comfortable. The location is great, a short walk to the metro and to restaurants/bars in Adams Morgan. Tony was very responsive and most hospitable. We would recommend this place to anyone.
This is a great place in a great location. It's a quiet residential street near Rock Creek Park. Can cook in or short walk to lots of choices to eat, by Woodley Metro, or funkier Adams-Morgan. Short trip anywhere via Metro or bus. Walk to interesting places like Meridien Hill Park and Mexican Cultural Center .Also great place to launch a Capitol Bikeshare trip.
"Henry" aka Tony was a very easy to get along with host.
Only drawback is lack of internet access.
We had an issue with Henry immediately when we arrived in DC as 2 amenities that were part of his listing were not actually available -- there was no parking and no internet. We drive a large/hard to park '77 van and we work from home, so these missing amenities were a huge issue during our 2-week stay. We were able to work it out with airbnb, and while Henry was responsive, I can't say he was actually all that useful in helping us come up with alternate parking.
The house is in a great location and is a short walk to the vibrant 18th Street and the Woodley Park metro. It's also a really cool space in theory, with 3 different stories (kitchen/dining on the bottom, living area in the middle and bedroom on the top floor). But in practice it's meh at best. The condition of the house isn't great -- duct tape used to seal walls/floors, carpet is grungy and stained, random hole in the wall in the bathroom, piles of the owner's junk kinda everywhere. The cleanliness leaves something to be desired -- carpet wasn't vacuumed well, linens and towels were dingy, and we found a nail (like what you hang a picture with) in our bed sheets! And the kitchen isn't stocked super well for someone staying for a long time -- there were only 2 random pots, no can opener, no pot holder, etc.
If the place was cleaned professionally and tidied up, better stocked, and if you don't need parking or internet, then this place would actually be fine. As is, it wasn't our best airbnb experience and we probably wouldn't stay there again.
I spent two weeks at Henry's place. It's big! Perfect for a long(er) stay for a couple. I must say this place can be romantic (if you want it to be). There are candles everywhere, the living room is cozy and the dining room has plenty of space for a romantic dinner. I came to DC for work but my wife visited me for a couple of days and we spent the Valentine's day in the apartment cooking and hanging out. I love the neighborhood, very quiet and safe. And the location is great if you came to DC for sightseeing. Just make sure you are fine with stairs - there are a lot of them in the house since it has three levels.
