"Live in the sunshine, swim in the sea, drink the wild air."
Sophie was a great host. She went out of her way to be helpful. I am happy that I chose to stay with her. It was a very special, unique and cozy place to call home for a few days. The yoga class was a great addition for R and R. I would definitely recommend it as its location was convenient to the water and beaches as well as just over the bridge to Portland. Thank you Sophie.
My husband and I traveled to Maine for the first time this past weekend with our dog and had an amazing stay at Sophie's. She was very accommodating, personable and helpful when it came to suggesting places to see, and yummy places where we could eat. Her apartment is cozy, inviting and beautifully decorated, and she always made herself available even on the nights when she didn't stay upstairs. We would definitely stay here again!
The accommodations were OK, but extreme traffic noise throughout the night (and day). We were looking forward to using the bicycles as advertised. I even corresponded ahead of time to indicate our reliance on having bikes. In fact, I chose this bnb because of the bike offerings. The bikes were not rideable. Sophie agreed to pay for a rental for my wife and provided a friend's bike for me. We paid for my wife's rental.
We had a great time at Sophie's and look forward to staying there again.
We had a great stay. Sophie was so nice and welcoming. Having bikes to ride around Portland was an awesome treat. I wouldn't hesitate to stay at Sophie's whenever I'm in Portland.
We arrived at Sophie's cool 2nd floor apartment and immediately everyone was very happy. It's situated above a yoga studio and Sophie stays above on the 3rd floor, when she's in town.
The apartment opens to a spacious kitchen on the right, complete with dishes, pans, utensils, a vintage enameled sink and a gas 4-burner stove. The bathroom (w/ shower) is located off the kitchen and has been updated... but in a good way. If you stay here, just ensure the inner shower liner stays inside the enclosure; I guess there's been water damage in the past, so we were all very careful to avoid that.
As you enter and go left, you'll find yourself in the dining room area, complete with an antique wooden table that seats 4. There's a book shelf with old toys, cameras and of course... books. Moving forward towards the windows that over look Broadway, you'll find yourself in the living room area, with 2 facing antique couches and a wooden coffee table. There's a small desk area too, where you can set-up your laptop. Get ready for chatting; there's no tv in the common areas... which we all liked. I'm not the type to go on vacation to watch tv. Finally, there's a waist-high black antique fan that is good for a few things... first, it makes a nice breeze and second, it's great for some white noise.
The bedroom has an old antique full-size bed that was staged with cool throw pillows. There's (email hidden) unit in the street-facing window that works very well, although we only turned it on to feel the air. I think we were fortunate and hit Portland at a near ideal time. There IS a small "tube-style" tv in the bedroom, but to be honest, an iPad is a bout the same size... let's just say it didn't even get turned on. There are extra blankets and pillows in the bedroom, as well as a small table in the corner with an old alarm clock and another cool old fan. My friend tried to move the fan while it was on medium... and GRRRNK!!! He definitely figured out to not stick any fingers in the open cage of a classic fan :)
Sophie left us little notes everywhere... from what was "up for grabs" in the fridge, to where we could eat & hang-out outside, to how hot the faucet water gets, etc. On the 2nd to last day we were there, she had pulled a bunch of fresh garlic and what looked like red potatoes. So, the next morning, I made a tasty breakfast saute, with with some up-for-grabs salsa and some veggie sausage. It was the perfect last meal of a very perfect week-long vacation.
We enjoyed good communication, complete disclosure about the apartment, clear instructions on what to be mindful of, a really cool apartment and a generous ride to the Amtrak station on our last day.
Thanks Sophie... you're the best!!
Everything was fine. The flat looks awesome and the neighborhood is quite and safe. We had a great stay.
Sophie's apartment is absolutely charming and perfect, and I felt completely at home there. Although I didn't cross paths with Sophie in person on this visit, her warm and gracious nature came through in her emails, texts, and the sweet notes around the apartment. The free yoga was also wonderful! I'll definitely come back the next time I'm in Portland. Thanks, Sophie!
Sophie's apt. was exactly as she described and more. We loved her attention to detail and her color sense was fantastic. You can get a free class at the Yoga Studio downstairs. We walked on Broadway to a delicious Taco place you can find on Yelp. I would take "Antique Chic" again on my next trip to Portland. Sophie you're a gem!
Sophie was a stellar guest! Communicated well and left the apartment clean. i would definitely have her come stay again and recommend her as a responsible and reliable visitor
