A native Californian, I have now spent more than half of my life in New England, where I teach European history in Boston and share a house in southern Maine with my husband and two cats. Much of my travel is to do research in French archives, but I also like to visit new places and to revisit ones that I love. I am a quiet guest; most of my days will be spent in the archives or touring a new town. In the evenings, I will seek a good dinner and then relax with a book. Not an exciting guest, I am nevertheless an easy one--a French speaker, tidy, and self-contained.
