This was my best AirBNB experience - ever.
I've arrived to an immaculate apartment that had been meticulously arranged with little treats and amenities everywhere, from washing powder to cookies and teas and all that - miles beyond what I have come to expect.
The apartment is exactly like the photos depict it: large (for Japanese standards) and accommodates 2 people really well. Amazing mattress and sheets.
There's a great balcony facing a large street - with double-glazed windows so no sound whatsoever would be heard from the street.
The bathroom is super modern with an electronic toilet and bathtub.
3 amazing stories about the host, Erika:
- I've had some difficulties with the mobile WiFi and in a day she brought us another one to use - and then we had two available.
- I've asked some mail to be delivered to her private address twice and she was kind enough to come and deliver the package always a day later.
- On our last day in Tokyo we forgot our passports at the apartment and we were gonna miss our flight back home. I've called Erika, who left work, came to the apartment and BROUGHT US THE PASSPORTS TO NARITA, the airport 60km away!
I mean, I am sure this is in part the amazing Japanese kindness and cordiality to guests, and a big part the amazing host we've had.
I can't recommend the place enough. The best place I've ever stayed in on AirBNB - and I've used it plenty! Thank you Erika!
It was a good stay. Everything was nice, the apartment was clean n spacious, I particularly enjoyed the bathtub which was very relaxing. Both Nick and Erika are helpful and responsive too :)
As my girlfriend's and my first airbnb stay, Nick and Erika's studio apartment was amazing! The apartment was only a short walk from Otsuka station, which was very convenient when needing to catch trains everyday.
The room was very well furnished, clean, spacious, and comfortable to be in. The bathroom was super fancy and nice. The pocket wifi was definitely handy for finding our way around outside the apartment, and for communicating with Nick and Erika when we had questions - they were extremely helpful! We genuinely loved the apartment and can't find any faults. We would definitely stay here again if we returned to Tokyo :)
Words can't really describe how well organized and clean this apartment is. Both Nick and Erika pay attention to almost every single detail in order to make a predominately Japanese language heavy environment into a place where anyone who knows English could feel at home. From the labels on the switches to the detailed instruction manuals.
This place is a must when visiting Tokyo.
Staying in Nick's flat in Ikebukuro was an amazing experience - it's incredibly well appointed, clean and modern, in a great location, and all communication with our hosts was fast and smooth.
We were so touched by all the thoughtful gestures, from the collection of hot drinks and snacks left for us in the kitchen, to the really nice toiletries in the bathroom. It's also really nice that all light switches etc come with English labels! The free mobile WiFi that comes with the apartment also made our stay in Tokyo a lot easier for us.
We can't recommend this place highly enough - we felt right at home, and it was a super convenient base from which to explore the city. Having lived in Japan, I'd never been in an apartment this nice before - while cozy by western standards, it's easily big enough for two, and it's a great example of clever design solutions and elegant compact living.
Erika and Nick were really lovely hosts, and I hope we get the opportunity to return to their Ikebukuro flat before too long!
We had great time at Nick's and Erika's apartment. It had all needed equipment and portable wifi was super. The area is local residential area which was nice, shops and restaurants near by. JR Yamanote line within walking distance. Nick was very helpful and providing information when we asked. House rules package was very informative as this was our first trip to Japan and we don't speak Japanese.
Excellent apartment, good location, Nick and Erika are very helpful. The pocket WIFI is amazing. I highly recommend this apartment.
I've been going to Japan for 10 years, and just got back from a three week trip where I didn't stay in any place more than two days. So I've seen lots of different accomodations, from ryokans to budget hotels and everything in between. The Ikebukoro studio was by far the best.
I was initially drawn by the awesome style of the place, and it's even better in person. The Kubrick-esque feel is really amazing when you're there. And the apartment is extremely functional, with a full kitchen including nonstick pots and a cutting board. There's even a decent pocket WiFi connection; I'm always shocked at how bad the internet connections are when traveling in Japan.
The hostess was extremely attentive, and responded to any concerns I had (controlling the heater, finding the kitchen knives) almost instantly via email. She also made sure I got into the place, letting me know as soon as the cleaners had left that it was ready.
The neighborhood was great; the local Lawson convenience store was more of an actual grocery store, with produce and everything, but still open late. There's a JR station a few minutes' walk away, and awesome/cheap sushi on the way. The sushi chef was impressively insistent; he wouldn't make me akami maguro sashimi, said I really wanted the hamachi he had that day. He was of course completely right.
Overall, this was the best place I've ever stayed in anywhere in Japan, probably the world.
The apartment was amazingly clean, secure and well located. There was plenty of space for the two of us and the bathroom was a nice size. My wife loved the automatic tub and I enjoyed having the pocket wifi unit for our day trips. The apartment is very close to shin-otsuka and JR Otsuka stations. You can jump on the Yamanote in about 5-7 minutes. We even walked directly to the main Ikebukuro area a few times and it was only about 15 minutes away. There are several grocery and convenience stores near by and several restaurants on the way to Otsuka station. Overall it was an amazing place to stay for the price. We will stay again during our next trip to Japan.
We really enjoyed staying at your apartment. Your directions were very clear and simple to follow and we had no problems in finding the place. The apartment was very clean and tidy and perfect for a couple staying in Tokyo. The location was very convenient and easy to reach from Tokyo station. The portable wifi was fantastic and we were able to carry this around with us. Thank you for a great stay!
Very pleasant and kind guests. There was a mishap with the cleaning of the apartment due to early check in but they were very understanding and cooperative. Hope to have the chance to host them again in the near future.
