This was a great location for us. There's a wonderful Farmer's Market right down the street on Thursday nights, as well as a Safeway and plenty of restaurants. The room was comfortable and parking was easy.
I will definitely stay here again when we return.
We enjoyed our stay at Richard and Sharon’s. The room was fine, the Jacuzzi capacious and relaxing, and the house located in a beautiful part of Berkeley. Our hosts were very helpful and welcoming.
Before booking I had a few doubts about not having full kitchen facilities, but in the end we were out a lot and wouldn't have done much cooking anyway. And when we asked for wine glasses and some additional cutlery, Sharon immediately provided us with what we needed.
By accident we discovered a network of public paths and steps in the Berkeley hills, which offer stunning views of the bay and take you past fascinating houses, gardens and parks. Some of the paths are decorated with artwork and figurines and one is bordered by a ‘poetry wall’. All those interested in some urban hill-walking should check these paths out – I later found there are a few books with detailed information about the paths, and you’ll find a fair amount on google too.
Just one note of caution regarding the more northern parts of Berkeley, beautiful as they are. We did spend more time travelling than we thought we would. If you’re a Londoner who assumes that crossing the bay on the BART is the same as crossing the Thames on the tube, think again - especially if you plan to go back and forth to San Francisco. But if you intend to spend a substantial amount of your time in the East Bay, it’s fine.
True, it takes an hour to get into downtown SF by car or public transit, up to twice that on public transit to the further reaches of SF like the Golden Gate Bridge or Ocean Beach. Also, I've added a Paths map for people who love to walk.
I booked two rooms with Sharon and Richard for a couple of musicians for whom we wanted to provide accommodations while they performed at our TEDx event. Each room had a separate entrance and bathroom, which was exactly what I needed for them.
Both gentlemen REALLY liked their accommodations. So, it worked out perfectly.
We had a wonderful experience at Sharon & Rich's. The room was comfortable and private, and the garden was lovely. We also really enjoyed the deep, deep tub! (But warning to the physically challenged, the high walls on the tub might be difficult to navigate for some.) Thanks for a lovely stay!
The hosts were nice and the room contained a comfortable bed, a microwave and a small refrigerator. We stayed in the Quaint Master Bedroom & Bath.
However, Sharon (one of the hosts) is highly allergic to scents of any kind and even my organic, additive-free pure essential oils stimulated her allergies and bothered her. So if you wear scents of any kind, find another place.
The master bedroom is a great alternative to staying in a B&B or hotel in Berkeley. The location in the Berkeley Hills is beautiful and walking and driving downtown is easy.
Sharon and Rich made a real effort to ensure that my stay was comfortable and were conscientious of my privacy. The room and bath had everything a traveler needs - coffee, shampoo, wifi, and cable TV!
This was my first Airbnb experience and I would strongly recommend this room to anyone who is spending time in the Bay Area.
Wonderful place to stay, especially if you enjoy walking. Sharon and Rich are ideal hosts -- there when you need them, never intrusive. A comfy room with all the conveniences, and great big bath to soak in at the end of the day.
Sharon and Richard are wonderful hosts - available with information, friendship and assistance. The location is perfect - close to Downtown and also close to Wildcat Canyon and Tilden Park wilderness areas. Sharon and Richard went out of their way to point out helpful ways to enjoy Berkeley - ways to get around and places to see. (For instance, you can rent a bike at Mike's Bikes near UCal, and should visit nearby Indian Rock - preferably with a pizza from the Hardware Store during a Saturday sunset!) I rode the BART from the airport to Berkeley North station and walked to Sharon and Richard's home. After I rented a bike from Mike's Bikes (rental included helmet and lock), I was within a 20 minute ride (great rides) of anything: Marina, Tilden Park, Dowtown, UCal. Great times. Thanks!
Sharon and Richard were awesome guests and I hardly knew they were staying at my house! They were great to talk to and I love the advice from Richard to retire young and have fun. That's exactly what they are up to. I would gladly welcome them back and recommend anyone enjoy them in their home too.
So enjoyed hosting Sharon and Richard! They came two weekends in a row, and we were glad to welcome them into our home again! Lovely guests!!!
Sharon and Richard were fabulous guests - and folks we hope we have the opportunity to host again in the future. They are warm, engaging and lovely individuals, and as a couple who hosts guests in their own home, they were extremely respectful and considerate of our home and space. Beyond just being great all around indivduals, they were extremely kind and patient with our new dog, who is still skiddish around new situations and friends - they truly went above an beyond with him! Because their schedule allowed, we were able to have a few wonderful conversations with them, and enjoyed getting to know them better. If you have the opportunity, I suggest you consider hosting them. I believe you'll enjoy them immensely.
Sharon and Richard were wonderful guests. They are interesting and considerate people. They had an easy-going way that made their stay stressless. I would like them to return and would recommend them to others.
These folks were here for a short time and busy, but they kindly took the time to chat and get acquainted. Quiet and kind people.
Sharon and Richard were absolutely excellent guests at our studio. I really appreciated their feedback during our stay and I hope we can somehow make our internet stronger for their next visit should they decide to stay with us. The Tamm's were respectful and easy-going, just what I would expect from a Bay Area couple. I wish them the best and safe travels back home!
Sharon and Rich were very fun guests to have! After the initial getting to know you period we felt like we were hosting friends instead of strangers. Rich is really funny and Sharon was so warm and sweet to our pets that I think they were sorry to see them go after only a week. They're both full of tons of knowledge and having an interesting conversation with them is just a matter of course. Definitely feel confident in accepting their reservation, you won't be sorry!
Richard and Sharon were wonderful guests: warm and personable. It was a pleasure to host them.
Welcome back anytime.............Mahalo
Sharon was an excellent guest. She was thoughtful, respectful and very low-key. I would welcome her back anytime.
Richard and Sharon are a fun, easygoing and hospitable couple. Their room was very spacious and comfortable with all the necessary amenities, and the bathroom had a lovely stained glass window. Whenever we plan to be in Berkeley again, we'll definitely be contacting them for a return stay.
