I really enjoyed staying in this apartment. Clean, quiet and great location. Dana was kind enough to send me an email ahead of time with extra details about the apartment and included restaurant recommendations in the area. She even sent me a video illustrating how to open the door to her apartment since a couple of previous reviewers had difficulty! Great host. I would definitely stay here again and have already recommended this listing to a friend who is visiting NYC in the fall.
Dana's place is lovely and located right by SOHO. Everything is in walking distance. Nice stores, restaurants etc. The apartment is well suited for two and offers everything you need (towels, hairdryer, fresh sheets, kitchen supplies etc.). The bedroom is located on the back side of the building. So no traffic noise at night:-) Dana herself was very helpful and always replied by mail, when ever I had a question. She gave us perfect directions around the area. The key transfer was easy and did not cause any hassle for me. I highly can recommend the place. Please be just aware that the building has no elevatore and you need to take some stairs. Just in case:-)
Overall, it was a great NYC experience. The apartment is located in a wonderful, trendy and pretty tranquil area considering you're in the city that never sleeps. We stayed here for my birthday weekend and a girls trip and we had a blast. Granted the apartment is rather small, but after all it's NYC what else can you expect. Again you can't beat the location. Now as for the 5 flights of stairs... Definitely exhausting so you'll genuinely feel like a true New Yorker! The struggle, but awesome workout! Dana was amazing, constantly in contact with me and making sure everything was perfect for us. Great great host! Will without a doubt stay here next time I'm back, hopefully sooner than later! Until next time NYC! You have my heart!
We had a very pleasant stay there!! The location is perfect, close to Soho and west village. The flat was a nice warm place where we were super happy to come back after a long freezing day outside!!
I recommend it 100%!
We stayed at Dana's SoHo apartment for 10 nights for our first visit to NYC. Firstly, the location is perfect for an authentic NYC experience. Everything you need is within walking distance - great shopping, countless bars and restaurants, and the metro at the end of the street to take you uptown and downtown (we walked to midtown and Brooklyn no problems though might be too far for some). Key pick up for Dana's was fine, though on arrival to the apartment the keys didn't fit in the door. We managed to get onto Dana easily via FaceTime and she told us one key was missing. She was very apologetic and said her friend would be there soon to let us in and offered to have air bnb pay for our breakfast while we waited. An hour later we were in the apartment. Our opinion of the apartment itself is that it would be fine for a few days stay but not ideal for the 10 nights we stayed. It wasn't clean. It was very dusty- dust on all surfaces and gathered behind the bed, doors and along skirting boards. We understand this can be difficult to manage as Dana doesn't live there and dust can accumulate between guests, however the amount of dust was more than you would expect if it had been cleaned recently. The carpet hadn't been vacuumed as there was clothing tags, dental floss etc on the floor and hair in the shower and sheets. The bedside table surfaces were particularly dirty - one had something sticky on it. This is frustrating especially as we are charged a cleaning fee. Apart from this, the apartment has everything needed for your stay at a reasonable price for the location - comfortable bed, warm apartment, strong hot shower and clean bath towels /clean sheets were the highlights!
Hi there, Im sorry about the cleaning issues, I use the service provided by airbandb, I will request that the cost be refunded to you along with your breakfast credit, thank you for your stay.
We stayed at Dana's wonderful apartment over New Years in NY. Firstly we could not have thought of a better location to stay in - on the border of Soho and West Village it is walking distance to the shops in both of these neighborhoods (even in the middle of winter) and there are a few subway stations nearby meaning easy access to the rest of Manhattan/Brooklyn. Our stay went smoothly and we were extremely happy with the value for money! Would definitely recommend to anyone considering a holiday in NY!
Our stay in Dana's apartment had its ups and downs, unfortunately there were more downs than ups. The great location as promised was delivered! We hadn't been to NYC before so weren't sure where the best location would be. The apartment is close to everything you would need: restaurants, nightlife, the subway, and it's an easy walk both uptown and downtown. It never takes long to get anywhere. The apartment is in a secure building, and has great heating and cooling. Unfortunately that is where the positives end. We had trouble accessing the apartment when we first arrived. The key pick-up was fine, but once at the apartment we couldn't unlock the door. A call to Dana who responded 15mins later had her questioning our key operating skills, and her hanging up and calling back 5 times before she organised the superintendent to come out and look at it. After all of Dana's disbelief that we couldn't get into the apartment, and hour and a half later we were in. The superintendent advised that the deadlock was so stiff it needed lubricating before a key could be used in it, and the other lock could not be used as the key being used was a bad copy and the lock would have to be replaced. I can't tell you how frustrating it was to have Dana telling us for an hour that the lock was never a problem and that we mustn't be using the keys properly. It was actually quite rude. She even had us photograph the lock as if to insinuate that we were not trying the correct lock. After no sleep for over 24hrs to get to NYC, and then another 3 hour wait at the airport until the cafe opened up that we had to pick the key up from, all we wanted was to get in the apartment and shower. How Dana handled the situation left me in tears. Once in the apartment, everything seemed fine upon first glance, thought getting to know the apartment we discovered many negatives. The toilet cistern is broken and continually needs manual fixing so that it wouldn't empty and refill constantly. The toilet lid is completely broken and just sits on top of the seat. We only were provided with ONE roll of toilet paper for the whole 16night stay. There was no shampoo or conditioner, and barely enough soap for about 4 days. We bought some and left it behind for the next guests, incase they suffered the same fate. The shower curtain had mould on it. There were only two bath towels available, which after a week means the towels are smelly. Two of the ceiling lights had blown, one in the bathroom and one in the loungeroom. There is a LOT of dust around the skirting boards, particularly behind the Bedhead, it looks like it has been there for a very long time by the way it is built up, which is bad for health, especially...
Unfortunately this guest expected the Four Seasons and instead was forced to live like the average New Yorker. :/ Still the most amazing apartment I ever had while living in NYC!
First experience with AirBnB, first rent of an appartment in New York and a furious will to do it again as soon as possible.
Dana appartment is fully in line with the description, cozy, warmful, in a very very nice location in new York, very calm street, close to all conveniences, subway, food stores, restaurant. Perfect for a stay of a few days (twelve in our case) and for a couple.
The building itself is very nice and practical (laundry inside, calm and secure, very pleaant neighbours. It perhaps just miss a lift when circulating with suitcases, but rest of the time, clibing the five stairs was very good for heart condition. Perfect place for a perfect stay.
Dana is very helpful for all we needed, answering our mail in the minute, calling back immediately when leaving a phone message, giving hints on restaurants, speakeasy and clubs. Key collect and drop back was easy, even if we have had to exchange by phone for the drop off (but it was also the occasion to thank her).
Only regret, having not meeting her in person. If we come back in West village or SoHo, we will surely ask for Dana's appartment again.
Love the apartment and location. Would definitely stay here again!
Wonderful location one block south of Houston - easy walking distance to West Village! I couldn't imaging a better location in NYC.
Dana was a great host, responding to my questions within a few minutes.
The apartment itself was very comfortable - great bed and a very quiet environment. Wifi worked fine and the instructions/info left out were clear.
Dana and her party were a pleasure to have in the house. They were courteous and respectful of the property. I would recommend them to anyone.
