I'm a writer and teacher in Austin, TX. I like travelling, the desert, good tequila, and 1960s soul music.
Wow, what a cool place. Really enjoyed my stay. Super funky apartment above a garage. Great neighbourhood. Super close to awesome shops, bars and the main drag of South Congress. I walked into the city most days, about 35mins. Would totally stay there again! Cindy (the host) is amazing to deal with too.
Cindy's spot was perfect for our SXSW stay. Her place is very quaint and nestled into a quiet corner of SoCo -- perfect for escaping the SXSW madness downtown for a quick catnap and super close to a ton of great restaurants/bars/food trucks on S. Congress.
The only odd part about the set up at her place is that the bathroom is located off the main bedroom which can make it a bit awkward if you need to use the restroom while someone is sleeping in the bedroom.
Side note: Cindy has a turntable and a pretty solid collection of vinyl which we definitely jammed to while relaxing between shows.
We crammed 4 people into this space which was definitely not ideal, but we made it work. I'd certainly stay there again, but probably think the space is best suited for a couple or a group of no more than 3 close friends.
Don't hesitate to stay with Cindy!
As a homesick Texan living in New York I consider visiting Cindy's one of my favorite restorative vacations. I love the house. It's a detached garage apartment which means that the living room is eye level with a beautiful hundred year old live oak filled with romantic fuzzy ball moss. The layout is intimate, the decor charming, it's exceptionally clean and has multiple windows in every room- all a New Yorker needs to feel like a Texan for a day. The neighborhood is the best in Austin. Last time I visited I just took a walk around the block breathing the fresh air listening to the quiet. The house is literally just a couple blocks from South Congress and I love waking up early in the morning and moseying down to grab my coffee at Jo's. It's heaven. You'll love it.
Cindy is the most responsible and organized person I know. On top of that she has impeccable style and is super clean. I've stayed many a night on her couch while traveling for work and play and her home is my austin home. I wouldnt stay anywhere else. The convenience to South Congress is sick! It's unheard of in Texas to have any kind of walking distance convenience, and her apartment totally supplies that. Even if you were to venture further out to the east side or downtown, cab rides are less than $10. Convenience, style, and comfort like is hard to find!
