The Ligia's apartment is well placed to Sintra. Ligia is friendly and gives good advice. The accommodation is rustic but nice.
Great hostess, very good location and a comfortable room. Lígia was gracious and accommodating from the time we arrived. She left a key so we could let ourselves in when we did arrive in the late afternoon, she recommended places to eat and sites to see (in fact, she sent us co-ordinates for the sites so we could programme our gps in the car) and, she did a couple of loads of laundry for us. The attic apartment was quite near the train station so we followed Lígia's directions and found it easily. An excellent coffee shop/café right next door (everything is homemade, delicious coffee!), minutes walk from a grocery store and the busses pass in front of the apartment. The "attic" was clean comfortable and conveniently contained a full kitchen. What is not to like? We had a wonderful time in Sintra and we thank Lígia for everything she did to make our visit memorable.
I really dislike shto do this review, especially after the positive reviews. I had many communications with Ligia and they seemed cordial. I wanted to drop off luggage early (secured) and then check in late afternoon. She suggested leaving them unsecured in the hallway of her unlocked building. As I wasn't comfortable - she later agreed to leave the keys and let me lock them in the apartment (not seeing her personally).
The apartment was clean and spotless and we were very happy. . . until the evening when we discovered there was no overhead light in the kitchenette area, NO GLASSES (2child plastic cups!) and ONE 6 ounce coffee cup.. . . so it was not a functioning kitchen
I did accidentally see Ligia the following day- and she "seemed" surprised - so she left TWO GLASSES and ONE coffee cup.
If that were all, I still would have not complained. That first night the hot water went out. No hot water to shower with in the morning. Ligia's response was that it was a "family home" and she didn't know that the apartment above where she is living also LOST hot water ALONG WITH HER OWN. uh . . WHAT???
She completely blew me off saying that oh well, she already had good reviews and "these things happen".
Clearly this is not an acceptable response from someone (who by the way - her PICTURE is NOT visible in her profile) who supposedly is in the business of renting an apartment above her own.
I documented everything - sent pictures and emails that were through airbnb - and have nothing but praise for airbnb.
Airbnb must have agreed that not having hot water is NOT acceptible as "oh well, these things happen" and made an exception and gave me a partial refund as well as a credit for the future as well.
Beware - when checking - do INVENTORY - if you expect to have a cup of tea/coffee or a glass of water - check the hot water - and complain IMMEDIATELY to airbnb if there is a problem.
I CANNOT recommend this apartment - for anyone.
Wonderful 7 days with Ligia. She took very good care of us in all ways and also gave us our privacy. We will stay with her next time we come to Sintra. Sintra is so nice to use as home base for Lisbon and the area.
This is a highly recommended lodging. Ligia is a very congenial host and can provide all the information you need in the most charming village of Sintra. The studio with bath and kitchen is very clean and up to date and even stocked with some of the most useful (website hidden)'s hard to believe anyone would be disappointed with a stay here.
Our stay with Ligia was excellent. She was at work when we arrived, but gave us clear directions as to how to get the keys and get in to the flat which is self contained and above her own. The location is central to the new part of town, right by the train station and only a ten minute walk from the old part of town. We hadn't realised but, with Ligia's directions, you can eat at much better restaurants far more affordably locally to the flat than in the quite touristy (though still quite lovely) old town. Sintra is amazing and the flat is perfect to get to the various local cultural highlights as well as out to the beaches. Ligia was very helpful at giving tips and tricks as to how to get the best out of both. We had a late flight and she was kind enough to let us check out late so we could shower before heading to the airport.
We loved our stay here! The studio flat was cozy, clean, private and very centrally situated in Sintra. Would highly recommend it and hope to stay here again in the future!
My girlfriend and I had a great stay with Lígia! She was incredibly helpful - letting us know where to visit and how to get around and telling us better, cheaper places to eat in Sintra that are outside of the touristy area. I would definitely recommend staying in the studio as it's just the right amount of space for a stay in Sintra.
We only had 1 night available between Bilbao and the Algarve. We decided to stay in Sintra and see Pena Palace. Lucia's apartment was perfect. for us. It was very handy to the railway to get in and out of Lisbon and the tourist buses which travel up and down the mountain. We arrived in Sintra about4.00 pm but still managed to see Pena Palace, the had dinner at an authentic restaurant down the hill past the railway station. Excellent food and service.
The bed and the apartment were very comfortable and we had a good nights sleep before heading off early back to Lisbon.
Thank you Logia for your help with information and making it easy for us toget into the apartment!
This is a great place to stay in if you want to see Sintra. It's within walking distance of everything. The apartment is clean, and it's a fun place to stay in. Ligia is a great host and very friendly. She was very helpful with information about local things to visit as well.
The only drawbacks of this apartment are the street noise and the train. There are loud motorcycles on the street below all through the night and the train passes beneath the apartment through a tunnel. But this is the price you pay to be in the midst of Sintra life. It did not bother us, but maybe it would bother someone else. Oh, and close parking is a limited. I never had trouble finding parking, but sometimes I had to drive around a little. There is a huge parking lot which always has openings about 10 minutes walking away.
The train station is nearby, and the train is very cheap and easy for getting to the center of Lisbon.
We had trouble finding the apartment. Use the street address rather than the gps coordinates, unless she has updated the gps coordinates.
