Response from Margot:
It seems like Matt doesn't appreciate the New York melting pot mix. The apartment is located right at the start of the Jewish hasidic community, the area is mainly Jewish families, some latinos, and artists. I'm not sure why he calls it a dodgy neighborhood, but I can say that this side of Williamsburg has been untouched by the real state boom which starts on Broadway. This area was how Williamsburg has been since I've arrived in the neighborhood in 1998- I also thought it was a bit dark- but as a student on a tight budget- became a world of possibilities living in a huge loft. FYI of history The Hasidic jewish here, own the north side as well, but the Rabi forbid them from developing below Broadway, thus this side has remained pretty much untouched.
