I am currently associate professor of Ethnomusicology at FLAME (Foundation for Liberal and Management Education), Pune, India. FLAME is India's first four-year liberal arts college and a global institution with major tie ups with US and UK universities including Suffolk, SUNY, and the University of North Texas.
I received my Master of Arts in Liberal Studies from East Tennessee State University, where I specialized in Appalachian music and bluegrass mandolin (I was also assistant editor of the Encyclopedia of Appalachia). My Ph.D. in Ethnomusicology is from the University of Texas at Austin and focuses on space in countercultural music.
Earlier I was a medical doctor and a gold medal winning diagnostic radiologist in New Delhi.
I am also a painter, a guitarist/mandolinist/bassist and played in a number of bands in Austin, Texas.
