Tips from locals
Antietam National Battlefield is a National Park Service protected area along Antietam Creek in Sharpsburg, Washington County, northwestern Maryland. It commemorates the American Civil War Battle of Antietam that occurred on September 17, 1862. 20 minute drive
Spend a day (or several) visiting Antietam National Battlefield and remember our nation's bloodiest day in military history, September 17, 1862, when over 22,000 soldiers were lost in a single day. The main entrance is only about 3 miles from The River Bend Retreat.
The odd thing about Cars is that most of the Civil War was done by walking from place to place so almost all of the battlegrounds are within easy walking distance.
