Generally you must pay to visit the Palace and formal gardens however if you don't have time to make it worth paying the entrance fee, there is free access to the palace’s East Front Gardens between the hours of 9am and 10am every morning (before the tourists coaches arrive!).

“Richmond Bridge is the oldest stone bridge spanning the Thames in London. Take a walk across the beautiful 18th century stone arch structure and look back at Richmond and Petersham Riverside. You may see a glimpse of the local boat builders who played a major part in the construction of the Gloriana for the Queen's Diamond Jubilee.”
