Tips from locals
Go to the Discovery Center for trail maps, tours, activities for the kids, and more. Currently under remodel, the center is slated to re-open in July 2020.
Come here to see exhibits on the local plants and wildlife and to speak to rangers about local hikes and nature programs. A few trailheads start from here.
Must stop visit if planning any hiking or off-road activities. This acts as a ranger station, kids play area and base camp for a number of hikes.
Great place to take the kids, call ahead to check on hours, or look online to see if any events are planned

“The Big Bear Moonridge Alpine Zoo is currently growing but still in the building process. Being with the animals that were rescued, and observing behaviors, growth, there's always so much to see and learn. You can even adopt an animal and follow its progress. ”

“If you have a big appetite and need fuel for the slopes or the lake this is the best place for breakfast. The staff is extremely friendly and the food is packed full of flavor. The wait can be long but you can put your name on the waitlist from Bear Hugs through Yelp (it feels like you're cutting the line but your not)! ”
