Tips from locals
Now a commercial district in Near West Side, Greektown was once home to Chicago's Greek immigrant community and this cultural heritage remains integral to the neighborhood. Lively Greek tavernas, restaurants and traditional pastry shops dot South Halsted Street. This area is also home to the…
Nice neighborhood with great Greek eats. There are several restaurants to chose from within walking distance from each other.
Unsure why the location says “nail salon” but this is one of my favorite spots for a nice dinner. Great food at any of the major Greek restaurants. You can’t go wrong !
Check out the Greektown as they have some amazing food choices and that happen to be my favorite town too. I would recommend Greek Islands Restaurant.

“Italian food, shaved Italian ice, Italian sausage on a bun with pasta sauce. Little Italy may be best suited for someone not sensitive to a Mediterranean diet. The neighborhood is great I love it. Lot of romantic places, I’d always recommend rosebud. It’s a bit pricey but personally it was fantastic ”

“There is an old area of Chinatown and a new area of Chinatown. They're just about a block away but if you go down there you probably want to make sure you see both of them. If you like spicy food we would highly recommend Lao Szechuan. Another place called The Phoenix is a popular dim sum place. If you go to Chinatown, the 77 Belmont Bus to the Red Line to Cermak is super easy, though driving/parking in their main lot near Cermak/Wentworth is great too. ”

“Okay okay I know what you’re thinking - “you call the magnificent mile free??” Well, it is if you aren’t shopping… and I know this is considered “the place to shop,” but there are things to do here other than shop! Plus many of the shops around here are high end and pricy (not within everyone’s budget). With that being said, it is actually fun to walk Michigan Avenue and simply look at the shops. I’m serious, there are some pretty cool ones. Take for example the Burberry store with its glossy black and chrome plaid-etched five story building - it’s like a shiny building-sized Burberry bag on the side of the street. For another thing to do in this area we recommend seeing the Chicago Water Tower which is an iconic landmark most known for surviving the Great Chicago Fire of 1871. (See Chicago Water Tower post under free things to do for more information). Some of the filming locations for the 2005 Batman series were filmed in this part of Chicago as well.
