Ed Balke, a dutchman who loves Belgium and Japan and who knows both countries intensely well, rules this restaurant already sinde the 7O's!! Balke stayed in Japan for a long time. After this search for his soul he needed the Japanese kitchen nearby. He rules the restaurant. Japanese chefs do work there. His sushichef is a real one, not a copy cat trained in a few weeks. His sushi chefs is still training, after 30 years and more, like it should be. Cosy place. Interior is charming, intimite but maybe a bit too old/used, everything could use new painting and so on, but it's not so improtant when the food is delicious, the atmosphere friendly, the service personal. Ask for Ed. He likes it when you say hello and he will recommend you what to chose from the menu. The degustation menu is really nice, but of course the single dishes as well. Very nice sashimi too. Ask for advice if you do not know what to chose. The restaurant is next to the Museum of Schone Kunsten (south) and close to the most beautiful synagogue of Antwerp. After dinner have a drink in bar Hopper, 100 meters further. We are thankfull Izumi, named after a city near Osaka, exits, and Ed too.
