Tips from locals
My favorite ski resort in the area. Famous for its deep snowpack and steep terrain, Kirkwood is many a local's favorite in-bounds playground. Give yourself plenty of time to get there on a powder day as the highway can be treacherous and slow-going.
It’s the best mountain around for experts and advanced skiers or snowboarders
One of our favorite resorts close-ish to South Lake. Approximately 30 miles away, and has some of the best vertical and powder conditions around. Make the trek! You won’t be sorry.
Located 41 miles East on Hwy 88. Summer activities like mountain biking and hiking and one or two restaurants might be open. Winter activities: world class downhill skiing and cross country skiing in the meadow.

“The reason this is a favorite beach is that it is lined with pine trees, so you have the shade of the trees and the fresh Tahoe forest experience, but also the beautiful, amazing Lake Tahoe, great for swimming, renting Kayaks or paddle boards, picnics, and the perfect place to spend the day on the lake.”

“Pretty decent Thai food. It's gone a little down hill in recent years but still pretty tasty and they have a great lunch special if you can make it. I like the pumpkin curry and wild orchid. ”
