Why locals recommend it
It's Spanish tapas, and when you come here, it’s like taking a little trip to the Mediterranean. They serve solid, good food. It's definitely been around for a while and it’s frequented by both the new Mission and the old Mission. Whenever I go to other tapas places, I always think, “Oh, but I wish I was at Esperpento.” If you go on a Friday or Saturday, you should go later in the night, because it's always pretty packed.

Best Spanish tapas in the Mission - it's like traveling to the Mediterranean without the airport lines. Try the trout, asparagus, spinach bechamel, jamon serrano appetizer, shrimp w garlic too many great dishes to pick from & it's affordable!

Spanish Tapas! Delicious tortilla de patata, seafood paella, and sangria! Fun decor with Salvador Dalli, and Pablo Picasso art and Almodovar posters and great Mariachi bands that play for you! A fun place for sure. Must love olive oil and garlic! Yum!
