Why locals recommend it
In the centre of town, the Serpentine Lido is actually a roped off area of a large lake in Hyde Park. Swim in fresh, if somewhat murky, water with a clear view of the high-rise buildings of London. You can have a top summer day out here for just a few pounds. There’s a tarmac “beach” and a grassy area above it to sunbathe on between dips Public access is only in the summer, though some regulars are allowed to swim all year and the annual Peter Pan Cup race takes place on Christmas Day. Don’t wear a white costume—you are likely to come out with a distinctly green one instead, thanks to the algae!
