Why locals recommend it
This is a proper London boozer. Inside its corner facade, it has really dark walls, 100 years of smoke in the carpet, an old till that makes a “ping” noise. The guy behind the bar is always kind of surly. They won’t give you a glass of water, and there’s no food, but it’s got a great atmosphere and really good live music. It’s cash only, so bring your reddies, as the ATM is a long walk away.
Tips from locals
Classic East London Bar. Take cash - no fancy tills here - and enjoy a cheap knees up in a very old fashioned bar. There is live music most nights & it's a great place for celebrations with locals and friends!
People sit all round this freestanding pub, and listen to live jazz in the lounge at weekends.
A local drinking institution that retains its traditional decor - a proper East End boozer with plenty of character in Millennium Park.
The Palm Tree is an 'East End' institution. The building stands alone in a park alongside the canal as all of its neighbouring houses were bombed in the Blitz... or so legend has it. Come here to get the true Cockney experience at the weekend.
