Why locals recommend it
Most New Yorkers overlook Connecticut’s only contemporary art museum, but it’s an easy and worthwhile day trip. The building, a former barn, was renovated into a contemporary museum that’s painted white with wood accents. It has two floors of gallery space dedicated to boundary-pushing exhibitions, and it overlooks a two-acre sculpture garden. The Aldrich is worth repeat visits. Because they are a non-collecting institution, their program is always changing. Some recent hits have been Virginia Overton, Steve diBenedetto, and Nancy Shaver.
