かつて北海道庁の本庁舎として建築された煉瓦造りの西洋館（国の重要文化財）です。「旧道庁」や「道庁赤レンガ庁舎」、「赤レンガ」などと呼ばれ、親しまれています。中には北海道立文書館（展示室、閲覧室、文書庫、事務室）、観光情報コーナー、北海道の歴史ギャラリー（北海道博物館）、樺太関係資料館、赤れんが北方領土館、記念室（旧北海道庁長官室）があります。 It is a brick-made Western pavilion (National Important Cultural Property) which was once built as the main building of the Hokkaido agency.
