You wouldn't know it to look at it, but one of the most indelible and stirring Olympic moments happened on this structure over 22 years ago when Muhammad Ali, suffering then from Parkinson’s Disease, lit the flame during the Opening Ceremonies for the 1996 Games almost 36 years after his Gold Medal win in the 1960 Olympics. It is deemed the 'Ali Moment' and ESPN ranked it as the 8th most memorable sports moment out of 100 in the past 25 years.
