The first neighborhood built below the Acropolis by craftmen from Anafi (an island in the Cyclades). You will think you are suddenly walking in a greek island, only up to the point you will look up and marvel again at the Acropolis!

Plaka and Anafiotika, the oldest section of Athens and the most picturesque. Take a good look at the restaurants’ prices because there are very touristy (!).

Lying on the Acropolis Hill foot, Anafiotika is considered to be one of the oldest neighborhoods and has been declared traditional settlement. Very picturesque with small houses built based on the Greek island architecture. The white washed streets, the flowers and lack of cars will make this walk your favorite one.

The winding medieval alleyways of Plaka, the old quarter below the Acropolis, are the most charming part of Athens. Naturally, they are also the most visited, and in midsummer some streets can be packed with touts and cheap gift shops. But Plaka is also very good at concealing places of untouched delight and famous for its traditional taverns. Anafiotika, part of the old historical Plaka is the loveliest and quirkiest tiny neighborhood in Athens and it lies in northern east side of the Acropolis hill.
