Why locals recommend it
The library opened in 1910, when Francesca Bonnemaison established the Institute of Culture and the Women’s Library, the first in Europe. This institution offers women’s education and access to culture via classes. It was so successful that in 1922 it moved to its current, larger location in the La Ribera neighborhood. It still works to defend women’s rights. In addition to the library, the building houses the Office for the Promotion of Policies for Men’s and Women’s Equality, the Women’s School, and the Francesca Bonnemaison Women’s Culture Center.
