On a nice day nothing beats taking out a kayak on Lake Windermere. You can hire a sit on top for 2 to paddle around the lake. Alternatively there is a branch hire place in Ambleside (Total adventure) where you can hire a canoe. there are also options for hiring rowing boats at Waterhead.

The boats are simple to get the hang of and don't require previous experience. While on the island, why not enjoy the sights of the brave souls attempting the stand-up paddleboards? The sport makes it easy to get around in the water but it's not as simple to pick up as kayaking! Stand-up paddleboarding is strictly for those aged 8 and above.
