This is a fabulous old fashioned model railway set up. Good for a visit on a damp day before the sun comes back out. Can be paired up with a trip to Heligan.

The main layout of the World of Model Railways has more than thirty trains travelling through such varied and detailed landscapes as town, countryside, seaside and even an Alpine feature. The scenery even includes more local features such as the china clay hills, a Cornish tin mine and even the fabled Beast of Bodmin lurking in the shadows. Interactive facilities allow visitors to add light and sound to various parts of the display, bringing models and sites to life. In the Alpine scene, there are skiers, chair lifts, cable cars and even mountain railway trains, operating as visitors watch. There are lots of tiny details such as a kingfisher perched on a 'No Fishing' sign. Elsewhere there are lots of other things happening: a wedding is taking place; cyclists are racing; people are losing themselves in a maze. When night time comes to the layout, the brightly lit fairground swings into action. The Junior Junction children’s railway is home to 'Thomas the Tank Engine' characters and a model circus. In the indoor garden railway, visitors can learn how to transform their own gardens to run large scale trains, whilst having a go at driving the trains. In addition, there are static displays showing hundreds of locomotives and other models. The shop stocks a wide range of models for the enthusiast. Both the shop and exhibition have access for wheelchairs. The site is close to the harbour in Mevagissey. It is open daily from Easter until the end of October each year and the exhibition is also open at weekends and during school holidays in the winter.
