Why locals recommend it
The MIll is one of the classic San Francisco spots that everyone needs to check out. It offers good people watching and good bread—there’s a bakery in here—and the Four Barrel coffee they serve is great. The big caveat here is that there’s no wifi, which actually makes it a good place to get work like writing done or to have a meeting. If you really need to focus, I would say go between 10 am to 3 pm. It gets a lot quieter after the morning rush.

Trendy coffee shop. Joint venture of the best coffee (Four Barrel Coffee) and the best bread (Josie Baker Bread)

Many come for the four barrel coffee, but this place is all about the bread. Josey Baker is a bread genius. Buy it by the slice or by the loaf. The line can get long, but it moves quickly.

Amazing bread -- typically runs out by the early afternoon. Get a whole loaf for home, or pay what seems like a lot for a seriously good toast plus toppings. They also have Four Barrel coffee.

Fancy Toast and great coffee. My personal favorite is the rye bread with cream cheese and pepper.

Single origin coffees & fancy lattes by Four Barrel. Try their toast! They’ve got great pizza available on most evenings, too.

“If you are looking for something besides burritos and tacos, nopalito is my favorite for casual Mexican food. Be sure to try the margarita with mezcal instead of tequila. Nopalito does not take reservations. Typically about a 15-30 minute wait.”

Pizza Place
“The oozy, buttery deep-dish pies are not a carbon copy of some Chicago creation by any stretch. With topping possibilities like artichokes and goat cheese, they’re a distinctly California creation — and a drop-dead delicious one at that. Note: the menu recently welcomed some healthy seeming things like a roasted kale appetizer and a broccolini topped deep dish pie, but don’t miss the classic — with sausage, mushrooms, and green bell pepper — and the spicy chicken wings. ”
