Great place to visit called by locals The Mini Tibet! Awesome views. You can have a BBQ on the plains, there is a butchery to buy your meat and access to grills and picnic benches.

Named the Tibet of Abruzzo, it's the largest plateau in the Appennines. It feels like a desert between the mountains, easy to reach from the Highway and very scenic route to drive by to reach the Planetarium square where various hiking trails start.

Drive slowly, open the windows, stop frequently and take a nice walk. Also, if you like horses it is a great experience to go riding near the Ristoro Giuliani in summer. Gentle horses and kind owners. Changes with every season.

The Campo Imperatore plain, in the Gran Sasso National Park, is called the small Tibet of Europe. Easy to understand why you have to visit it.
