The location of Ocoee Whitewater Center is just a few miles west of Ocoee Adventure Center. This whitewater center was built to host the whitewater slalom events of the 1996 Olympic games. During construction of the whitewater park one quarter mile of river bed was modified. The designers and engineers narrowed the Upper Ocoee’s riverbed from 200 feet to 70 feet in width. As a result, the constricted channel causes the water in the river to increase in speed and power.

The Ocoee River has been described as the “roller coaster of the south east'! About 30 minutes West of Murphy on 64 West, pass over the Tennessee line and enter the Cherokee National Forrest. This is where some activities for the 1996 Olympics took place. The ranger station and bridge area comes up on your left side. You can park below and check out the inside of the Ranger Station, maps and info on the area. You can go across the bridge and either hike a trail or take a right and it runs along the river, nice walk and fun on the rocks. For Swimming: go to the LEFT of the bridge and follow that trail down about 75-100 feet and you will find some open areas to the water. The water does not run on the weekday and it creates big pools of clear water. Kids will have fun swimming and jumping off the rocks.

The Ocoee River has become recognized as the ultimate river for Tennessee rafting since it was chosen as the venue for the 1996 Olympic whitewater events. Boasting the most continuous class III and IV rapids of any river in the United States, the Ocoee River will give you a romping, rollicking ride through the scenic Ocoee Gorge.
