Most people know about tubing on the Comal or Guadalupe River in New Braunsfels. Those areas can get crowded and have so many different restrictions on what you can bring it gets confusing. We prefer to tube the San Marcos River. You will get a lot of Texas State college kids on the peak holidays but typically it is a less crowded float and we feel it is prettier and more natural than the Guadalupe River. You can also stop at Academy and get a cheap $15 River Run tube if you prefer to not rent one. Just do not inflate it ahead of time.

What better way to enjoy the sights, and get a bit of recreation in at the same time than tubing in Martindale! It’s one of the best floats and is affordable, easy parking! No glass or styrofoam, no beer bongs, or boom boxes (audible beyond 50 ft).

The San Marcos River is my favorite river that's close to San Antonio. A little over a 45 min drive up I35.

If you’ve never been tubing, Texas State Tubes is a great place to start! For a couple of bucks, you can rent a tube and get a shuttle pass to drive you back to your parking spot after the river trip ends! The river takes about 3+ hours to float, but it completely depends on the currents. This is one of my favorite activities to do in Texas!
