WAM is a great place to check out, with a calendar of exhibitions, usually featuring local artists and craftspeople. It also has a very nice coffee shop, where you can sit and observe the buzz of Braamfontein. They often host free drawing classes and guided 'walkabout' tours.

A Treasure Trove of African Art An amazingly curated museum, the Wits Art Museum, fondly referred to as WAM, hosts a stunning collection of contemporary and traditional African art. It's located in a bright and airy space and feels relatively undiscovered. A firm favorite is Sam Nhlengethwa's "It left him cold", a tribute to the death of Steve Biko. Definitely put this on your list.
