中部地方最大のターミナル駅であり、広域輸送の拠点となっている。JRは東海道新幹線の全列車が停車し、在来線は当駅を中心に各方面へ特急列車が発着している。市内各所を結ぶあおなみ線、名古屋市営地下鉄も乗り入れており、近接する名鉄名古屋駅、近鉄名古屋駅とあわせ、中部地方最大の鉄道ターミナルとして機能している。Nagoya Station sits at the center of a major transportation network in central Japan. JR Central lines, Tokaido Shinkansen tracks, and the semi-private Aonami Line are all concentrated inside the station building. Just outside the building you can also find the Nagoya Subway Station, the private Meitetsu Nagoya and Kintetsu Nagoya railway stations, and highway bus and city bus terminals.
