This is on the South End of the Island; we love to take our Jeeps out here and set up for the day. This is a great place to Surf Fish too. You do have to pay to gain access, you do this by going into the office located next to the entry or you pay online and get the access code for the gate. Check the website for prices and more details as they change every year. It does say no alcohol as it's a state park, but we've never had an issue as long as you bring cans, not bottles and keep it low key.

- Visit more beautiful beaches and marshlands, and check out the historic site to learn more about Fort Fisher’s role in the Civil War. About a 10 minute drive.

Just beyond Carolina Beach on the very tip of the peninsula. Gorgeous views, history lessons and even a ferry to Southport you can put yourself and your car on and circle around right back to The Hawkesnest! Super fun excursion.

Fort fisher is a recreational area. You can go fishing or visit the NC Aquarium. It also has a ferry which can take you over to South Port which is another local and historic area.
