Fully completed in the mid-1400s with the demolition of various buildings and incorporating an older and small square, in the place where the grain and fodder market was once held, for centuries it was the representative seat of the city government. The home of the Venetian Podesta’ rises up to the west. The Civic Tower overlooks the square. A fountain donated to the city in 1780 by the Podesta' Alvise Contarini stands in the centre of the square.

La piazza centrale della Bergamo antica con il palazzo della ragione e la biblioteca Angelo May e tutto attorno i principali e preziosi monumenti di città alta (la città antica chiusa fra le mura venete) come la cappella Colleoni, Santa Maria Maggiore, Il Duomo ed il Torrione.

Dire Piazza Vecchia significa dire Città Alta. Sulla piazza spiccano il Palazzo della Regione, Il Campanone, la fontana Contarini... insomma da non perdere!!!
