The Tampa Bay Buccaneers feed Central Florida’s pro-football hunger with 10 games each fall. Raymond James Stadium, host of three Super Bowls opening in 1998, may be best known for its 103-foot pirate ship perched above the north end zone. Whenever the Bucs cross the 20-yard line or score, the ship’s cannons fire their blasts.

Once you enter, however, things only get better. There are exhibits and art galleries; there are lecture halls and display rooms. Whether you’re looking for a sophisticated collection of Roman sculptures or a messy art station where the kids can play with watercolors, the Tampa Museum of Art can provide. Another fun thing about the museum is that it hosts a variety of special events. From yoga classes in the mornings to summer camps on the weekends, you can always find fun things to do on the premises. In fact, it’s one of our recommended travel hacks to always check the calendar of the Tampa Museum of Art before you go; you never know what awesome things will be posted next! The Tampa Museum of Art isn’t just one of the best places to go in Tampa. It’s also one of the best places to go in all of Florida. Built in 1891 by railroad magnate Henry B. Plant, this history museum is located in what was originally the Tampa Bay Hotel, an extravagant resort that drew such guests as Teddy Roosevelt and Babe Ruth. Now home to the University of Tampa, Plant's accomplishment is made all the more amazing when you realize that when it was built, the hotel was surrounded only by swampland. Now exquisitely restored, the hotel's striking minarets architecture, lavish furnishings and vibrant gardens provide a rare glimpse into the early years of Florida tourism. Sure, it makes returning to a modern-day hotel room a bit sad, but this Moorish beauty is a definite must-see.

Unearth Tampa’s grand past at the Henry B. Plant Museum! 🎩 Nestled within the University of Tampa, this Victorian gem transports you straight back to the Gilded Age. The museum, once a lavish hotel, now showcases Florida's early tourism days, with each room telling tales of opulence from the late 1800s. As a local, I’m always captivated by the museum's authentic furnishings, and the self-guided audio tour that breathes life into the stories behind each room. Oh, and the original Edison lightbulbs are a sight to behold! 💡 The museum isn’t just a stroll through history, but a venture into the architectural grandeur of the Victorian era. And the best part? It’s a serene escape right in the heart of a bustling university campus. Take a leisurely walk through the hallways adorned with historic photos, and let the nostalgia wash over you. Straz Center for the Performing Arts: The David A. Straz Jr. Center for the Performing Arts opened its doors as the Tampa Bay Performing Arts Center, Tampa, Florida in July 1987 and has welcomed more than 16 million guests. The venue was renamed in November 2009 to recognize the generous donation, the largest individual philanthropic gift ever made to a cultural institution in the Tampa Bay area, of financier David A. Straz, Jr. Capacity: Carol Morsani Hall: 2,610, Ferguson Hall: 1,042, Jaeb Theater: 268, Shimberg Playhouse: 130, TECO Theater: as needed. The Center provides not only top-notch performances, such as Cats, Hamilton, To Kill A Mockingbird and Tootsie but arts education programs to 1.2 million students. Annually, we’re able to offer more than $300,000 dollars in scholarship assistance to kids around the region to study in our ever-growing, fully-accredited performing arts conservatory. We’ve got a whopping 52 education partners and counting, which means we have teacher-artists zooming all over the tri-county area delivering programs in music, dance and theater to Title I schools, veterans organizations, assisted-living facilities, other community-service nonprofits like Metropolitan Ministries, MacDonald Training Center and more. If the community needs arts for personal improvement, healing, entertainment, edification or appreciation, we are there, ready to act — or sing or dance. Each year, we’re responding to needs for more free performances for the community outside near the river, so we created Live & Local, Arts Legacy REMIX, Fourth Friday performance series and ongoing visual arts exhibits. We even built a new Airstream bar, Sip, to make attending the outdoor performances even cooler. We’re also growing our inclusivity reach with relaxed, sensory-friendly Patel Conservatory theater performances and easier access to performances both economically and physically. When we get suggestions for how we can improve our services, be they educational or for cultural enrichment, we do our level best with the resources we have to provide what people need from their performing arts center.
