Hike at Fallen Leave Lake Fallen Leaf Lake is a much smaller alpine lake just a couple of miles south of South Lake Tahoe. At the entrance to Fallen Leaf Lake Campground, you can begin the hiking trail, which leads by the lake and a view of Mt. Tallac. The .75 mile walk is flat with a wide trail, easy to navigate even for kids.

Sierra at Tahoe is our go to place for skiing and they also have an awesome sled park for family fun! It is a super fun park for kids of all ages and you can also wonder off in the woods with your snowshoes to explore the mountain. Only 45min or so from the house this is a great spot to get some awesome snow fun in!

Distance; 6.1 miles / 11 min Donner Ski Ranch is another small option for families new to the snow. Located literally across the street from Sugar Bowl, Donner Ski Ranch first opened for business in 1937, and has retained its classic charm throughout the decades. With new management taking over for the '16/17 season, the "Ranch" is starting to generate some buzz among North Tahoe locals, many of whom remember learning to ski there in the 60s and 70s. With 500 acres and 6 chairlifts spread across a front-side and back-side, there's a balance of terrain for all abilities, and even a tubing hill for families that don't ski or board. 5 minute drive from the condo!! Highly recommend for affordable lift ticket, ski/snowboard lessons and a great first start for experienced skiers warming up before heading to Northstar or Palisades. Most picturesque photos can be taken from the top runs and you will get more than your fair share of a workout on your legs cruising on the runs here. The Lakeview chair lift is rather slow, but no one seems to mind when the views of Lake Tahoe from the little day lodge at the top are that grand. The Diamond Peak Ski Resort is renowned for being family friendly, wallet friendly and just friendly in general! Diamond Peak Ski Resort is rather small with only 655 acres (265 hectares) of terrain and 30 named trails. The resort is long and skinny with a 1,840 feet (561 metres) vertical drop, and two main faces. All the runs funnel down to the base area, so combined with the petite size of Diamond Peak, it’s easy to keep track of all the family. Despite only having minimal beginner terrain (2 runs), Diamond Peak Lake Tahoe is rather popular with beginners. Schoolhouse is almost flat so it’s unintimidating, whilst the other green run is a nice progression and a couple of the blue runs are very easy. The majority of the trails are rated for intermediates (46%) and many of the supposed advanced runs can also be tackled by solid intermediates. The black runs (36% of terrain) are generally very short, and are cut bump runs or glades. A short hike or traverse to Solitude Canyon provides some more challenging tree skiing, but Diamond Peak doesn’t really have much that will entertain expert skiers and boarders for very long, and side-country skiing is not permitted. There are 6 chair lifts, of which only one is a high speed lift that travels up the guts of the resort. Some of the other fixed grip lifts have a loading conveyor belt to speed things up a little.

Mt Rose skiing is a quick 34 min (27.2 mile) drive from Reno Northstar. They have options for all levels and family members. 1300 acres of ski runs with 7 chairlifts and 3 snowboard parks. Things to Note: The last ~10 miles to Mt. Rose are thru steep windy mountain roads. Please make sure you have vehicles and/or snow chains to handle those roads during inclement weather. Also may be good to drive thru those during daylight.

Our favorite for boarding/ skiing! 30 minutes up hwy 431. Go early (before 8:30) and enjoy one of Gus's famous breakfast burritos. Best value for ski lessons. Best childrens learn to ski program. Highest terrain (8260 elevation) so the driest snow in the basin. Nice combination of ability levels for skiing. If you are already a skier and have your own equipment, head to the Slide Side (Winters Creek lodge) to avoid the crowds. Slopes are all blue and black diamond rated on this side. Easy parking and less crowded.

Due to its elevation and unique location on the Summit, it boasts the most snow of any Tahoe resort. In addition to the excellent snow, there is a wide variety of terrain for all abilities. Founded in 1939, it is one of the oldest ski areas in the country and is still one of the only independently owned resorts in Tahoe, lending to an unpretentious character and comparatively light crowds. Absolutely love getting away to Donner Lake! Donner Lake is 45 minutes away- up 80. They have lots of public docks, ample parking areas, paying for day use at the state park is also a great option. The state park has a lagoon area and rents kayaks, paddle boards, and petal boats, you can also rent jet skis and fishing boats there for the lake side. There are lots of Great Lake front picnic benches. They have great trails and walking paths. It is above the poison oak elevation (Colfax is not). It is also cooler up here, so if it is a super hot day in Colfax, getting away to this lake is absolutely lovely. This lake is so picturesque, I personally like it more than Lake Tahoe. Also the opposite end from the state park has a public beach with a big play ground. Such a fun little day trip!!

Kings Beach Lake Tahoe is 51 min (42.4 mi) drive from Reno Northstar. Its a large and long public beach with nice restaurants and cafe on a walking street behind it. Public restrooms and picnic tables grills available with reservation. Swimming, paddleboard/boat/jetski rentals available. And just a great place to picnic on the beach. Also cool to check out the locks on the bridge/pier and view Lake Tahoe from a different angle. Things to Note: Also a popular beach, they have more public parking lots however those fill up fast. Be prepared to arrive early to find a spot. However they have nearby neighborhood areas that may have some spots available.

Since many Kings Beach restaurants are lakeside, they welcome sandy feet and furry, wet paws. They’ll give them treats too. There’s even a pier restaurant where you can pull up, have them valet park your boat then you can slip in for food and refreshment and an unbeatable lake view through their floor-to-ceiling windows. Many Kings Beach restaurants will pack your order to go. Great food is always more delicious when eaten in stunning scenery, and there’s no lack of that in Kings Beach. Grab your food then dine on a boat dock or find romance under the stars at a picnic table. JASON'S BEACHSIDE GRILLE What more could you ask for than a lodge on the lake with a great view and a beach bar? Jason’s Beachside Grille has been dishing out gourmet burgers, drinks from the full bar and good times in Kings Beach since 1984. The interior is rustic and cozy, all wood, with hand-carved barstools and chairs, a vintage fire pit and birch branches strung with white lights. A glass-enclosed deck overlooks the beach, and in the summer their backyard opens up as a lawn area with tables, live music on the weekends and refreshing beverages from the outdoor kiosk. Besides the long list of flame-broiled hamburgers, Jason’s serves hot sandwiches and beef, chicken, pasta and seafood meals. French onion soup is a specialty. Jason’s is family-friendly. CB'S BISTRO CB's Bistro is most definitely a favorite among locals and for good reason. Located right across the street from some of the best public swimming around Lake Tahoe, this friendly, family-centric dining establishment has sandwiches, burgers, appetizers, soups, salads and tasty Italian food plus a welcoming atmosphere. The pizzas are well-sized, and the calzones are huge. In addition, they have a kids' menu. There is a small bar area with sports on TV and it is an excellent place for good drinks. CB's offers daily specials with new items every week. JIFFY'S PIZZA Jiffy's Pizza & Homemade Ice Cream is a longtime favorite for locals. From humble beginnings more than 30 years ago, Jiffy's Pizza still offers the same NYC-style pizza crust today that made them famous around Lake Tahoe. The cozy restaurant offers outdoor seating, and they have a wonderful selection of beer and wine. They also offer incredibly delicious homemade ice cream in an assortment of flavors. The Incline Village restaurant delivers to the surrounding community as well as Kings Beach and Crystal Bay. BEAR BELLY BREWING COMPANY Those who enjoy the nanobrewery scene must try Bear Belly Brewing Company. With their small-batch brewing system, Bear Belly has five beers constantly rotating in the draft lineup, making the selection consistently fresh. The taproom is open and inviting, giving patrons a feel for what it is like to create the ale. They also offer an outdoor beer garden that is open to kids and dogs. To make the experience that much better, Bear Belly Brewing Company brings in local food trucks to help with the festivities from time to time. CALIENTE Caliente is done up like an old hacienda with exposed beams, wood and iron fixtures, cactus decor and rustic wooden chairs. The interior bar and dining room stay warm and cozy in the winter but if the sun is shining, you've got to get outside. For something mellow, try the patio around the front of the building. If you’re looking for the party, head upstairs to the rooftop deck with its Palapa Bar and view of the lake. The cuisine at Caliente matches the decor: Tex-Mex with a Southwestern accent. The menu is packed with tasty bar snacks with a few Platos Grandes, some fajita platters and tacos, of course. But you’re here for the drinks, right? Caliente is well known for its wide selection of tequilas. Have a shot or a flight, a traditional margarita or something different like the Prickly Pear Margarita or a Ginger Anejo Julep. Come by on the first Thursday of every other month for a tequila tasting. But you haven’t experienced Caliente until you’ve gotten brain freeze from their signature frozen drink, the ChupaCabra, a blend of tequila, rum, peach schnapps and tropical juices. Salud! CHAR PIT The Char-Pit began as a seasonal, walk-up hamburger stand in the summer of 1962. It got so popular over the years that they put up four walls and a roof with some tables inside and shifted to year-round service. Sit down and invest some time studying their menu, a list that has grown over the years right along with the business. Their burgers come by the 1/4- or 1/2-pound in several configurations like the French, covered in bleu cheese and barbecue sauce on a french roll. Pick out a signature sandwich, fish basket or barbecue ribs. Don’t forget the classic fries or onion rings and a frosty milkshake or root beer float to round out the meal. Whatever you order, make sure you grab plenty of napkins. Picnic tables surround the outside of the building where your hound is welcome to hang out with you and gobble up the scraps. If you should have to wait for your order, try your hand at the vintage Ms. Pac-Man game and see if you've still got it. GAR WOODS GRILL & PIER Got a hankering for a cold drink and some California cuisine as you’re boating across Lake Tahoe in the summer? Pull up to the pier at Gar Woods Grill, and they’ll valet park your vessel while you slip in for a refreshment. Take in the amazing views of the jewel of the Sierra from the deck and balconies or from inside Gar Woods through their floor-to-ceiling windows. Be it winter and snowing, cozy up to the three-story stone fireplace with a mug of something hot to warm your insides. Stand-out appetizers include the Dungeness Crab Cakes and Ahi Poke Tacos. Hand-cut steaks come hot off the grill, as does fresh Hawaiian seafood specials and seared scallops. If it’s your first time at Gar Woods, you’ll have to try their signature drink, the Wet Woody – a frozen blend of rums and peach schnapps with cranberry, orange and pineapple juices and topped with more delicious rum. With its lakefront location, pier and deck, Gar Woods is a great venue for weddings or other celebrations. Lunch and dinner are served daily, and breakfast is served on the weekends. Whether you come by water, wheels or snowshoes, you’re sure to be wowed by the views and refreshed by the world-famous Wet Woody. LA MEXICANA MEAT MARKET & TAQUERIA La Mexicana Meat Market & Taqueria is a little corner store and so much more. Just off the main drag in Kings Beach, it’s a full-service grocery with a butcher, fresh produce, dairy and a bakery producing traditional Mexican pastries and breads. You’ll also find a wide variety of spices, seasonings and chili peppers. There’s also a small kitchen producing authentic, made-to-order Mexican food: breakfasts, tacos, burritos and combo plates – such as carne asada – with ample sides of rice and beans. Don’t pass on the homemade salsas or guacamole. The service is fast, and the portions are large. Get your order to go or eat inside at the counter or outside at one of the picnic tables. La Mexicana is open daily. LANZA'S RESTAURANT Stepping into Lanza’s Restaurant is like taking a step back in time to 1970s Lake Tahoe. The slightly kitschy dining room has a lodge feel with wooden booths, red and white checked tablecloths and vintage fixtures. The menu features build-your-own pasta dishes in which you select the type of pasta, the sauce and toppings. You can also choose from one of several chicken or veal dinners or specialties like stuffed lumaconi — jumbo pasta shells filled with beef, spinach and cheese. Their Sicilian-style, thick-crust pizzas come stacked with big portions of rough-cut toppings. The servings are large, and the prices are reasonable. The bar is funky and fun, decorated with segments of a mid-'50s Cadillac — the full dashboard mounted above the bar and the front and back ends fixed to the rear wall. There’s usually 1950s rock and roll playing and a few TVs showing sports. You’ll find creative cocktails at the bar, great mid-range wines by the glass and tasty appetizers. Lanza’s is open daily for dinner and offers happy hour is from 4:30 to 6 p.m. every day of the week featuring $1 off drink specials on wine, beer and well drinks. They don’t take reservations and parking is limited, so get there early. LAS PANCHITAS Las Panchitas is a family-owned establishment that began serving Mexican food to Lake Tahoe locals and visitors back in 1982. The menu encompasses the full spectrum of Mexican dishes including burritos, tacos and house specialties like the Fiesta Tostada and the Las Panchitas Special (a chorizo and egg enchilada with refried beans, rice, tortillas, guacamole, salsa, sour cream and butter). A favorite on their drink menu is the margarita. The best parts of Las Panchitas? The prices are exceptional, and seasonal outdoor dining is available. OLD RANGE STEAKHOUSE As you walk into Old Range Steakhouse you’ll be greeted by the Wall of Wine from which you can select a bottle to accompany your meal. Slip into one of their vinyl booths surrounded by redwood paneling and take in the view of the lake and mountains. The vintage steakhouse atmosphere probably hasn’t been updated since the 1970s, but that’s not a complaint. Big is the operative word here – big portions, big steaks, big view. Most of the menu items will feed more than one person. Check out their wide range of aged and fresh corn-fed Angus beef such as rib eyes, filet mignon, porterhouse and New York strip. Try the rotisserie chicken, braised lamb shank, king crab legs or the giant Iowa pork chop. The house specialty is salt-roasted prime rib. The bread is served warm, and the garlic mashers are a great accompaniment to anything on the menu. If you’re there before 6 p.m. on a weekday, they’ve got three-course early bird specials for $29. Old Range Steakhouse is open daily for dinner. SPINDLESHANKS AMERICAN BISTRO Spindleshanks American Bistro is housed in a modern lodge on the Old Brockway Golf Course in Kings Beach. Decks out back and around the side provide alfresco dining with a view of the golf course. Inside it’s cozy and light with high ceilings, wood floors and a couple of fireplaces. Dinner options are eclectic with oysters, pork-belly tacos and nightly seafood specials. Notables are the Ginger Lemongrass Brick Chicken served with Asian slaw and mushroom pot stickers and the Roasted Butternut Squash Ravioli in sage brown butter and candied pecans. Spindleshanks is well-known for its weekday happy hour featuring discounted wines, well drinks and appetizers. If you should have to wait for a table, there are a few bocce ball courts on the property. Spindleshanks is open daily for breakfast, lunch and dinner. It’s a great place to fill up before golf in the summer or to enjoy an après-ski happy hour in the winter. STEAMERS BEACH SIDE BAR & OVEN Steamers is a great restaurant option for two reasons. First, their menu is filled with tasty items. Second, their location can't be beat with its doors just a few steps away from the shoreline of Lake Tahoe. Steamers features hand-tossed pizzas, calzones, oven-baked sandwiches and, of course, steamed clams. Their dough is made fresh daily, and you can choose from their California classic crust or a lighter, thin-style crust. Their best selling Pizza of the Gods features pesto, artichoke hearts, sun-dried tomatoes and mushrooms topped with Provolone cheese and roasted garlic. They also offer gluten-free options and use organic and locally sourced ingredients. If you would rather eat at home, they offer delivery. TACO JALISCO If you're looking for Tacos Jalisco in Kings Beach, you'll want to keep your eyes open for the small orange sign facing east/west as you drive by. And your attentiveness and persistence will be rewarded because, although the little Mexican eatery can be hard to find, the food there is tasty and authentic. It's an intimate diner where you get big servings of good food such as tacos, burritos, pozole and tortas, and you can wash it all down with a nice drink, including a selection of beer and wines. And if you still have a hard time finding it, look for the street signs – it's on Northlake Boulevard between Fox and Chipmunk. THE BURRITO WINDOW The Burrito Window is a quick, delicious and inexpensive option for a yummy meal. With burritos that start out at $9 and kids meals for $4 and less, you can't beat the prices. You can call ahead for your take-out meal, making it even quicker if needed. Serving chicken, carne asada, carnitas, shrimp and vegetarian burritos as well as tacos, chopped salad and tostadas, their Mexican fare is satiating and memorable. Their kids' menu consists of burritos, quesadillas and tacos. In addition, there are a wide variety of drinks and beers also available. The Burrito Window is connected to D'Lish Catering, which focuses on organic, locally grown produce, so if you like the food the chefs can assist in feeding you and your large party. THE GRID BAR & GRILL The Grid Bar and Grill wears many hats. It is first and foremost a bar. If sports are going on, it becomes a sports bar, broadcasting games on the 20 TVs. On a Thursday or Sunday night it’s a karaoke bar. If it’s Saturday or Sunday morning, during football season, The Grid is a breakfast joint. Any other night of the week it’s probably a nightclub with live music, a DJ or an open mic. But every day of the week The Grid is a grill serving burgers, sandwiches, bar snacks, mini pizzas and wings. A favorite appetizer is the shrimp tacos with cucumber salsa and a squeeze of lemon. The interior is dark with low ceilings and a cozy dance floor and a copper-topped bar. Outside there’s a sizable deck with picnic tables. THE OLD POST OFFICE The Old Post Office Cafe is a popular, family-friendly breakfast and lunch destination for locals and visitors alike. The decor is homey, and the staff makes everyone feel like a regular. Get a seat at the counter, in the dining room or out front on the enclosed porch where there’s a filtered view of the lake. You’ll find all the usual suspects on the menu: home-style biscuits and gravy, huevos rancheros, French toast and made-from-scratch pancakes and waffles. But you’ll also find creative house specialties like the Crab Cake Benedict, Cajun Scramble, Chicken Fried Steak Omelet and the Hangover Helper – two sausage patties on two biscuits smothered in gravy with eggs and crispy home fries. Pair that with a couple of mimosas or Bloody Marys and you’re back in business. Check out the Create Your Own breakfast menu. Start with a scramble, Benedict, potatoes or breakfast burrito and choose whatever vegetables, meats, sauces or cheese you want them to put in it. Lunch is sandwiches (hot or cold) and burgers. Portions are big, hearty and affordable. The restaurant gets crowded, and there is oftentimes a wait, especially on the weekends, but the friendly staff is fast and efficient at turning tables. THE SOUL DOMAIN If you’re looking for a romantic dinner made with fresh, natural ingredients, look no further than The Soule Domain. Housed in a mid-century cabin in the shadow of the Tahoe Biltmore, The Soule has been producing French-based cuisine fused with Asian and Mediterranean influences since 1985. The split-level log cabin dining room is rustic and cozy, warmed by a fireplace. Tahoe memorabilia decorates the walls, and you’ll find fresh flowers and candles on every table. Start with lobster wontons, escargot or lamb ravioli before moving on to pork tenderloin, lamb, duck, filet mignon or Thai curried chicken noodle bowl. Be sure to check out the seafood specials or other nightly additions. Whenever possible, sustainable seafood, organic meats and free-range poultry are used along with local, organic produce. Vegan, vegetarian and low-carb dishes are available. The wine list is eclectic with a nice mix of domestic and European bottles. The Soule Domain is open nightly for dinner, and reservations are highly recommended. If you’re willing to go a little off the beaten path, the combination of intimate setting and exquisite flavors is sure to provide for an idyllic evening. WHITE CAPS PIZZA Whitecaps Pizza has created the perfect combination: delicious pizza accompanied with stellar views. On the shores of Lake Tahoe in Kings Beach, Whitecaps Pizza is a restaurant offering pizza, appetizers and sandwiches. They also have 14 handcrafted beers on tap as well as an extensive domestic and international wine selection. Their welcoming, clean establishment is great for enjoying your meal indoors or on the outside deck. The restaurant is steps away from the water's edge, if dining shoreside is more to your liking. For a deal, check out their daily happy hour from 4 to 6 p.m.

Park at Tunnel Creek restaurant area for a fee and walk as far as you can toward Sand Harbor (4.5 miles) for a gorgeous and picture perfect walk. Stay to the right side to let bikes and runner pass on the left.

The Kirkwood Potholes are a magical place to spend the day in crystal-clear waters with pool after pool of pristine Sierra Nevada water, connected by small rock waterfall slides. It's only a 7 minute drive from the building to Silver Lake where you park for $5. Enjoy the crystal-clear lake itself or take an easy 10-15 minute walk from your car to reach the Potholes. Both the lake and the Potholes are dog friendly. Bring your towels and lots of sunscreen, as you'll be laying out on the giant granite boulders surrounding the Potholes and then cool off in the stream or the many pools along the way. Just head back to Highway 88, turn left, and drive over the Carson Spur. After cresting the top and descending again (about a five minute drive), you will reach a large, 90 degree right-hand curve and then start climbing again. In approximately 1/4 mile, you will then see signs for Silver Lake and Kit Carson Lodge on your LEFT. Park right at the dam for $5 and then cross Highway 88 on the far side of the bridge (the west side). You'll see a marker for the Kirkwood Potholes right there, with the stream flowing out of the dam on your RIGHT. Follow the trail along the stream for 10-15 minutes depending on how quickly you walk and then you will reach the Kirkwood Potholes on your right. There are no fees and the Potholes are dog friendly. Airbnb doesn't allow posting of links yet here in the guidebooks, so just go to Maps and search for "Potholes Trailhead" for driving directions, or search for Silver Lake, CA if you want to see everything on a map.

Emerald Bay is a breathtakingly beautiful destination on the west shore of Lake Tahoe. It is known for its crystal-clear waters, sandy beaches, and stunning panoramic views of the Sierra Nevada mountains. One of the main attractions in Emerald Bay is the Vikingsholm Castle, a historic mansion built in the Scandinavian style in the 1920s. Emerald Bay State Park is centered on Lake Tahoe's Emerald Bay, a National Natural Landmark. Features include Eagle Falls and Vikingsholm Castle, a 38-room mansion that is one of the finest examples of Scandinavian architecture in the United States. The Scandinavian-style castle architecture built by Mrs. Lora Josephine Knight, was completed in 1929. The old tea house in the middle of Fannette island was used in the summer by Mrs. Knight and guests. Visitors can paddle board, swim, or boat to Fannette island for spectacular views of Lake Tahoe and surrounding hills. Great place for a picnic and swimming off the pier.

A must see at Tahoe. Take public transportation during summertime as parking is extremely scarce. Look up the Tahoe Transportation District for Emerald Bay shuttles and trolley times. The trolley is open air and super fun. Hike down along a paved road to Vikingsholm Castle and beach for a real treat.

This is the closest dog friendly beach to the house. Its a hidden little beach, most locals walk their dogs there. Not the best beach to hang out at all day, but for avoiding the traffic and a quick little trip to the beach its ideal.

Walk or ride your bike from your townhome, and swing by the Sugar Pine Cakery on the way to have breakfast on the beach! Please note dogs are not allowed here, but they are just around the corner at Lael Forest Beach. Lovely for sunbathing and swimming, BBQs at provided BBQ pits, or watching the sunset after a fun day in the sun.

South Lake Tahoe, located at the south end of Lake Tahoe and just across an invisible border from the casino’s in State Line, NV, is the primary city in the Lake Tahoe Basin. The cities location is simply beautiful, with the vast blue waters of Lake Tahoe marching off to the north, while numerous tall, snow-covered peaks loom over the city to the south and west. South Lake Tahoe, due to the wide varieties of outdoor activities nearby and the simple beauty of Lake Tahoe, draws in tourists and visitors year-round. As such, the downtown area of South Lake Tahoe can be a busy place during much of the year. However, it is during the summer – especially on weekends – when the city overflows with people and vehicles. Those searching for areas “less traveled” will want to avoid South Lake Tahoe on summer weekends! Owing to its location, South Lake Tahoe is one of the primary cities in the Tahoe Basin for outdoor recreation. The huge Heavenly Ski Resort is located right in the downtown area, with a gondola whisking skiers and sightseers high up into the mountains. South Lake Tahoe also has many marinas and boat launch facilities, and thus serves as one of the primary boating hubs in the Tahoe Basin. The city is also located near some of the finest hiking and mountain biking trails in the Tahoe Basin, too.

Old town truckee near the train depot is a must see for any visitor. From the stage where Charlie Chaplin performed to the old time jail museum there is plenty of history in old town Truckee. Be sure to check out the river side of the tracks for more food and shopping. If you are here in the summer then Truckee Thursdays is a must do. Food trucks and free music as well as local vendors take over Truckee every Thursday.

Downtown Truckee is a calm quaint neighborhood. For families, Jack + Emmy has a great selection of clothes and toys. Buds Ice Cream is only open during the week but has the best old fashion ice cream in town. The best coffee can be found at Coffeebar. For a cozy romantic dinner try Pianeta but I recommending making a reservation. To pregame a night out grab a seat at Moodys bar which is walking distance to Pianeta. If you want your night to last till 2am try the Tourist Bar for cheap drinks and good conversation

Sierra Bakehouse • Only open on Friday mornings, these people are the real deal! Channel your inner local and get in line on Friday between 10-2pm for their weekly bakesale: croissants, bread, and baked goods galore! Since this area is such a popular winter sports spot, many Incline Village restaurants have cozy fireplaces and warmed outdoor spaces to add to cold weather dining. But year round, these restaurants bring in the diners. Imagine enjoying a meal on the deck of an Incline Village restaurant while the sun sinks into the mountains, casting fiery colors on the Lake for a picture-perfect background. Crystal Bay restaurants are not as numerous, but they’re nicely varied. Some are located in casinos, so you can dine at all hours of the day or night. ROOKIE'S SPORTS BAR & GRILL If you’re looking for a place to watch a particular sporting event – obscure or otherwise – Rookie’s is probably showing it on one of their 30 high-definition TVs. They serve breakfast until late morning, and the menu is extensive, from a bagel and cream cheese to burritos, Benedicts, scrambles and omelets. Served late into the night, the rest of the menu has salads, wraps, sandwiches, grinders (a sub doused in marinara sauce) and a long list of gourmet burgers. They feature daily specials like half-price burgers on Tuesdays and Wing Wednesdays. There’s a separate pizza kitchen cooking up some good pies. Rookie’s has a full bar where you can sit and play video poker, or you may want to slip out to the patio to soak up some sun or take in the night stars. You'll find video and arcade games for kids of all ages. Sports memorabilia covers the walls, and there’s a performance area featuring live music some Thursday nights. Rookie’s is open 24/7. Minors are allowed until 10 p.m. ALIBI ALE WORKS - BREWERY & BARRELHOUSE Alibi’s original taproom – the Barrel House – at their production brewery in Incline Village, is a comfortable, well-crafted space for people to gather and relax. Their brewers curate a draft and bottle list of their favorite beers, and there are always a few Barrel House-exclusive beers here. They offer beers by the glass, build-your-own flights and crowlers/growlers to go as well as a range of beers in cans and bottles. They also serve wine, cider and kombucha. Be sure to pick up some stylish merch or a gift card for a friend. Although they don’t operate a kitchen, you are welcome to bring your own food or order in from one of the many restaurants in the neighborhood. This location is a 21+ establishment. It’s also a great place for small private events. ALIBI ALE WORKS - INCLINE PUBLIC HOUSE Incline Public House is Alibi Ale Works' third and newest location. The taproom and restaurant serve Alibi's fantastic beer from 16+ frequently rotating taps, along with cider, wine, nitro coffee, kombucha and other non-alcoholic options. Beyond beverages, their excellent food menu ranges from amazing burgers and wings to mezze boards, salmon toast and sushi-grade Spicy Yellowfin Tuna. Be sure to ask your server for recommended pairings. The culinary team always strives to source organic and local products in their dishes. Enjoy indoor or outdoor seating on their heated patio and expansive beer garden. Be sure to pick up some stylish merch or a gift card for a friend. In addition, you can take Alibi beer to go in the form of cans, bottles, crowlers and growlers. Minors are welcome until around 9 p.m., but dogs are not allowed, indoors or outdoors, so please leave your four-legged friends at home. BERTIE'S HOT CHICKEN Bertie's Hot Chicken in Incline Village started with owner Rick Boyd's upbringing in which homemade chicken recipes were made with loving care. Boyd brought his native Texan roots and family recipes to Lake Tahoe and offers incredibly tasty fried chicken made with the spicy love that only the Deep South can create. With Boyd's passion for fried chicken and spicy food, this is a dining opportunity that stands alone in Lake Tahoe. Add to it a supportive environment that offers staff a competitive wage, while at the same time using sustainable, fresh ingredients, and customers to know they are not only getting a fantastic meal, but also supporting a local business doing good. BIG FOOT DELI Carved out of a corner of the Village Market, Bigfoot Deli has a wide selection of breakfast and lunch items. For a quick breakfast they do coffees, teas, espresso, pastries, smoothies, homemade quiche, breakfast burritos and many types of breakfast sandwiches. Lunch is hamburgers, specialty sandwiches and build-your-own deli sandwiches. In the summer they serve barbecue. Bigfoot Deli, in the Village Shopping Center, is open daily for breakfast and lunch. CROSBY'S TAVERN Crosby’s Tavern in Christmas Tree Village is a restaurant and bar with ample TVs to watch sports and a welcoming staff and family-friendly vibe. They’re open daily for all-day brunch, lunch and dinner with a little bit of everything on the menu. Lunch and dinner fare includes burgers, grilled sandwiches, steaks and BBQ ribs as well as a wide range of soups and salads and a menu just for kids. Additionally, they serve dishes from around the world such as Greek gyros, English fish and chips and selections from south of the border like their prize-winning pork green chili. Sit at the bar to sip a fresh-squeezed cocktail and catch your favorite sporting event on TV, slide into a booth with the kids or dine outside on their dog-friendly patio to let the babbling brook provide the perfect soundtrack to your sunny day luncheon. For those looking for a place to hold a reception or event, Crosby's is a great venue to keep in mind. FREDRICK'S FUSION BISTRO Fredrick’s, an American bistro with an Asian twist, is known for their sashimi and sushi rolls, but they also serve up seafood, duck, filet mignon and braised short ribs, to name a few. Not to be missed are the Lobster Dogs and the Turf & Surf sushi rolls. There’s a welcoming bar with a mellow ambiance serving craft cocktails. They have an extensive and eclectic wine list and a good selection of sakes. Fredrick’s is intimate and cozy with Tuscan orange walls and the copper-topped bar glowing warmly under soft lighting. Request a table by the fireplace to help make it a romantic evening. Reservations are recommended. To add a touch of fusion bistro class to any event, ask about their on-site and off-site catering services. JIFFY'S PIZZA Jiffy's Pizza & Homemade Ice Cream is a longtime favorite for locals. From humble beginnings more than 30 years ago, Jiffy's Pizza still offers the same NYC-style pizza crust today that made them famous around Lake Tahoe. The cozy restaurant offers outdoor seating, and they have a wonderful selection of beer and wine. They also offer incredibly delicious homemade ice cream in an assortment of flavors. The Incline Village restaurant delivers to the surrounding community as well as Kings Beach and Crystal Bay. LONE EAGLE GRILLE Grab a table next to the wall of windows at the Lone Eagle Grille and sip a glass of California Cabernet as you gaze out over Lake Tahoe’s Crystal Bay and the snow-capped Sierra Nevada beyond. Come evening, pull a chair up to one of their outdoor fire pits and light a cigar from their humidor as you listen to the waves slapping the shore and the mellow licks of a wandering guitarist. If the night is cold, cozy up next to their giant stone fireplace with a single malt scotch, or sidle up to the copper-topped bar for a craft cocktail like the Sicilian Widow, Mexican Firing Squad or their signature, the Golden Eagle Margarita. Wherever you chose to settle in at the Lone Eagle Lounge, don’t fail to order food, at least one of their tapas-style offerings – seared foie gras, kale salad or a thin-crust pizza. The Lone Eagle is a grand lodge with lots of wood, a wall full of old books and scissor-truss vaulted ceilings. Attached to the lounge is the Lone Eagle Grille with a more extensive menu, an open show kitchen and a 600-bottle enoteca, a five-time Wine Spectator Award of Excellence winner. The Lone Eagle is owned and operated by the Hyatt Regency Lake Tahoe just up the road. For weddings, receptions and large group gatherings, this is a fantastic choice for a catered affair. AUSTIN'S RESTAURANT If you’re hungry and in the mood for some fresh, home-cooked comfort food, Austin’s might be the place for you. Their Signature Salads alone, like Doug’s Favorite, are a meal – or two – in themselves. Try their sandwiches, burgers, meatloaf or specialties like the Chicken Fried Chicken, Pesto Pasta Primavera or Mountain Rainbow Trout. Homestyle side dishes include coleslaw, mac and cheese, chicken fried bacon, buttermilk fries and their fresh-baked cornbread. Can’t decide? You can skip an entree altogether and get the Sideboard Special with your choice of four sides. The bar serves specialty martinis and winter warmers, and they've got happy hour food specials during the week. Don't pass up the homemade pie! Austin’s has a cozy log cabin dining room as well as outside tables on their dog-friendly patio. In addition, Austin's offers online ordering and online grocery and curbside delivery. Prices are reasonable considering the large portions. Across the street from the Hyatt in the Country Club Centre, Austin’s is open daily for lunch and dinner, serving comfort food for the soul. AZZARA'S Family-owned and -operated since 1978, Azzara’s is one of the oldest restaurants in Incline Village. They serve up authentic Italian cuisine like Grandma used to make. Their traditional menu covers pizza, pasta, seafood, chicken and veal, with specials like veal Saltimboca, cannelloni alla Romana, osso buco and linguini with clams. Cannoli and tiramisu adorn the dessert menu. They’ve got a good selection of Italian wines, a full bar and authentic espresso. Recently remodeled, the dining room has a warm, bright feel to it while retaining an old school Italian restaurant vibe. Black and white photos decorate the walls, and Italian opera plays throughout. There’s also a small, laid-back bar scene with its own menu featuring wild mushroom ravioli. Gluten-free pasta and vegan options are available. If you have a large group and want to eat elsewhere, they have a carry-out catering menu that will oblige. Azzara’s is open for dinner Tuesday through Sunday. BIG WATER GRILLE “Big water” is one meaning attributed to the Washoe name for Lake Tahoe. You can see just how big that water is when you take in the panoramic views from the spacious dining room of the Big Water Grille. Serving seasonal selections of California bistro cuisine, Big Water Grille has a great list of starters like ahi poke and pan-roasted quail plus fresh vegetable sides and some serious steak burgers. The hearty main courses include pan-seared duck breast, a smoked rib eye and nightly fresh seafood specials. They have a wraparound bar with a separate food menu, signature martinis, craft cocktails and beer. The wine list is extensive with more than 200 international selections. Appetizer and drink specials occur Wednesdays in the spring and fall. Just down the road from Diamond Peak, Big Water Grille is a great place to stop in after a day on the slopes to warm yourself by the fire. Whenever you go, get there early enough to catch an amazing Sierra sunset over the big water of Lake Tahoe. They're open for dinner Wednesday through Monday. BILTY'S BREW & Q Bilty’s Brew & Q, just off the casino floor in the Tahoe Biltmore, pairs house-smoked meats with a selection of more than 30 craft beers. The dim, neo-industrial space sports brick walls and a stone fireplace. Sink into the plush, black leather seats at your copper-topped table as you read through the menu. If you like it hot, get the Ring of Fire burger, one pound of beef stuffed with pepper jack and jalapenos garnished with bacon and wasabi aioli. The brisket is slow-cooked for up to 14 hours and served tender and juicy. There’s a full list of Southern-style sides, and all the house-made sauces and marinades are fresh and flavorful. If it’s Tuesday get the prime rib special. Still can’t decide? Try the Taste of the Lake with a little bit of everything: pulled pork, brisket, hot link, ribs, chicken and sides, more than enough for two hungry people. Be sure to check out the beer list. BITE AMERICAN TAPAS Bite American Tapas has a laid-back, modern feel with soft lighting, natural wood accents and a friendly vibe. Their wraparound concrete bar is well stocked and has a great list of creative craft cocktails, many containing house-made shrubs, syrups and infusions. Try the Dire Wolf made with bourbon, amaro, apricot liqueur, mint and lemon or try their Absinthe Sampler. Their small plate, shareable menu offers small bites like bacon-wrapped dates stuffed with blue cheese. Most popular from the Sliders list are the BLT (bacon, lobster and tomato) and the Ahi Slider. Bite also serves larger share plates such as fish tacos, sweet chile glazed ribs and scallops with romesco served over grilled corn grits. They have a well-thought-out wine list to match the cuisine. At Bite you can start out small with a couple of plates and just keep ordering dishes until you’ve had your fill. There are also bites for dessert. Bite is open for dinner Tuesday through Saturday. CHOPSTICKS For those who enjoy flavorful Asian dishes, including Chinese and Korean fare, Chopsticks in Incline Village is a must visit. In a newly renovated, fresh and welcoming atmosphere, Chopsticks has a large menu that serves up various flavors from afar. A few dishes that are highly recommended include the Mongolian Beef, Black Bean Noodles and U-don Soup. For a decently priced lunch, Chopsticks offers a lunch special Monday through Friday. CLAY OVEN Clay Oven is a wonderful foodie adventure to Asian lands like China and Vietnam. Their menu is absolutely packed (plus they have daily specials), giving a ton of different options and making certain that all taste buds find their match. Some of the recommended dishes include potstickers and crab Rangoon as well as their main dishes of pho and Sri Lankan curry. For people in larger groups or for families, the Happy Family Meal is an excellent choice. FUMO CAFE, EATERY & BAR Fumo has a bright, open feel to it, with bare tables and big windows letting in lots of light during the day. In the warmer months you can dine on the patio and feel the breeze coming off Lake Tahoe. Their creative menu features mouth-watering burgers and sandwiches, appetizers, soups, salads and entrees such as short ribs and Manila clams. Vegetarian, vegan and dairy-free dishes are options. As a bonus, Fumo is open for breakfast serving incredible dishes like their hearty Loggers Skillet or their DP Ski that comes with avocado, Truckee Sourdough toast, a poached egg, Hollandaise, red onion, tomato and fresh herbs. There is also a kids' menu available. Fumo is open Thursday through Monday at 5 p.m. for dinner and Thursday through Monday from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. for breakfast. They deliver within Incline Village. GUS' OPEN PIT BARBECUE Born out of a mobile catering grill, Gus’ Open Pit Barbecue is not your usual barbecue joint. While most types of grilling originated in the South, Gus’ employs a California style that came from the central coast around the town of Santa Maria. Tri-tip, seasoned with a dry rub, is slow grilled over an open fire of red oak. It’s served straight, without sauce, so you can enjoy the full flavor of the meat. Sides of green salad, garlic bread and pinquito beans – shipped specially up from the central coast – complete the Santa Maria experience. Chicken, pulled pork, hot links, St. Louis ribs as well as sandwiches, sides and appetizers (don’t pass on the pickle fries) round out the menu. Upstairs there’s an open dining space with a vaulted ceiling and lots of wood, a sunken bar serving craft cocktails and a wide selection of beers and a 140-inch video wall for watching sports. The downstairs is more intimate, with two smaller dining rooms and outside tables on the deck. They’ve got Happy Hour deals and specials during NFL games. Gus’ is open Thursday through Monday for dinner and Friday and Sunday for lunch. And they’ve still got that mobile grill for all your catering needs. INCLINED BURGERS & BREWS If you are looking for a tasty burger and beer spot, Inclined Burgers and Brews is going to serve up exactly what you are looking for. The welcoming, inviting atmosphere pairs well with their scrumptious, well-sized burgers and yummy fries (the garlic fries are highly recommended). With their great assortment of beer choices, the combo makes the meal a satisfying treat. The outdoor patio is perfect to take in the beautiful Tahoe weather while enjoying the scenery at the same time. KOI SUSHI Koi Sushi in Incline Village serves fresh fish and creative rolls. The interior has a lustrous feel to it with polished wood floors, moody lighting and decorative Japanese accents. Start by delving into the variety of appetizers, salads or noodles. While you’re cleansing your palate with some miso soup, peruse the long sushi menu, from sashimi and nigiri to the variety of rolls — cooked, maki, vegetarian and hand rolls. If you're really hungry, go for the all-you-can-eat lunch or dinner sushi deals. But don’t pass up the rolls they’re best known for — the Carlos Special and the Spicy Albacore Deluxe. For the non-sushi eaters in your party, they offer teriyaki, tempura and katsu dishes. Koi Sushi in Christmas Tree Village is open for lunch and dinner Monday through Saturday and for dinner only on Sundays. LA FOUNDUE A longstanding restaurant in Lake Tahoe for good reason, La Fondue is a wonderful dining experience for those who enjoy the romance accompanied with sharing a warm meal. La Fondue is known for exceptional fondue dishes, whether as an entree or dessert. Served in the classic cheese style or in an oil or broth fashion, there are a variety of fondue choices, with their Meatball Fondue or Surf and Turf being highly recommended. Beyond the fondue world, they also offer culinary delights like schnitzel, stuffed mushrooms and escargot. The restaurant has an intimate, chalet style and offers a patio for seasonal dining. For meetings, weddings and group functions, La Fondue offers catering services. LE BISTRO Le Bistro is an Incline Village hidden gem dishing up creative French fusion cuisine crafted with local, seasonal and organic produce. In this small, fine-dining restaurant, each dish is personally plated and artfully presented, and the food is as delicious as it is beautiful. Vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free dinner options are available on request. Their international wine list is spectacular and has received Wine Spectator’s award of excellence. Also offering fresh-baked breads and mouth-watering desserts, Le Bistro is open for dinner Tuesday through Saturday. Reservations are recommended. LUPITA'S MEXICAN RESTAURANT & BAR Lupita’s Mexican Restaurant & Bar in the Village Center serves authentic Mexican food in a brightly painted, low-key setting decorated with sombreros, lassoes and other Mexican artifacts. The bar has a good selection of Mexican cervezas and tequilas, and they pour a true margarita called the Natural. They’ve got a full menu of tacos, tostadas, burritos, enchiladas, quesadillas, seafood, vegetarian and large combination plates. Specialties include several ceviches, chile relleno and the deep-fried Tacos Presidente. Lunch specials and happy hour are offered on weekdays. The portions are always large and affordable, making Lupita’s popular with locals and visitors alike. They are open daily for lunch and dinner. MOFO'S PIZZA Mofo’s Pizza in Christmas Tree Village has been locally owned and operated since 1986. Their decor is a nostalgic throwback to the days of red and white checked tablecloths and wood paneling. They use fresh toppings and ingredients, and the dough is made daily and hand-tossed for thin or extra-thin crusts. Pizzas range from vegetarian to barbecue chicken, or you can create your own from the wide variety of meat and vegetable toppings offered. There are also different sauces to chose from: barbecue, pesto, garlic and a red sauce. (The marinara recipe has its own unique history, having been brought back from Italy by a family patriarch after his P-38 was shot down there during World War II.) Calzones are also on the menu, as are dishes made with their homemade pasta such as lasagna, carbonara and spaghetti and meatballs. Gluten-free crusts are available for the mini pizzas. Mofo’s Pizza is open daily for dinner and Thursday through Saturday for lunch. Make sure you leave room for the homemade ice cream. SAGE LEAF TAHOE When you have time to sit down and savor breakfast or lunch, you're living right. Sage Leaf Tahoe in Incline Village, offering an elevated dining experience for the two meals that we often rush through, brings healthy, comforting and innovative fare in an inviting, friendly atmosphere. The ever-changing menus feature local, sustainable and humanely raised products, and vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free options are available. Sage Leaf offers indoor dining and patio seating, and take-out with online ordering is available. The restaurant can be rented for private events for up to 30 guests seated and 45 standing. Sage Leaf is closed on Tuesday and Wednesday. TUNNEL CREEK CAFE At the edge of town on the former site of the Ponderosa Ranch (remember Bonanza?) sits Tunnel Creek Station. It’s at the hub of several backcountry hiking and mountain biking trailheads, including the Flume Trail, and is also adjacent to the East Shore Path, a great place for bikers of all ages. If you’re headed up the mountain or just spending a day at the beach, Tunnel Creek Cafe is a great place to fuel up on wholesome goodness. For breakfast they’ve got coffee, espresso, tea and pastries. If you want something heavier, try a full breakfast (eggs, bacon, potatoes, pancakes), a breakfast burrito, a croissant sandwich or a fruit smoothie. For lunch have them pack you a sandwich to go, or sit in the warmth of their dining room and enjoy a salad, wrap, hot grilled sandwich or one of many vegetarian options. Adjacent to the cafe is Flume Trail Mountain Bikes, where you can buy or rent a bike, including e-bikes for the mountain or path, or get yours repaired. They’ll shuttle you from here to Spooner Lake or Tahoe Meadows so you can ride your way back. Online reservations are available. When you do come down from that long day on the mountain, Tunnel Creek Cafe is the perfect place to catch your breath. Put your feet up on their front porch, sip a glass of wine or cold craft beer and recount the stories of your ride. Tunnel Creek is open daily for breakfast, lunch and post-ride cool downs. T'S MESQUITE ROTISSERIE T’s Mesquite Rotisserie cooks chicken and beef tri-tip on a rotisserie and serves them up several ways. The chicken is done in a soy lime marinade or the sweet and spicy Yucatan style with citrus, pineapple and achiote chili and served with a choice of sides. You can also get a quarter or a half chicken served with a couple sides and tortillas for a reasonable price. You’ll also find the chicken, tri-tip or pork in their burritos, tacos, tostadas, quesadillas and sandwiches. The salsas and guacamole are homemade, and everything is fresh and tasty. The dining area is no frills, and there are several tables outside. Some days there’s a line of people out the door waiting to order food, especially on Fridays when the lunch special is the chili relleno burrito. You may stop in to chow one down for lunch and end up taking home an entire chicken for dinner. T’s is cash only and is open daily for lunch and early dinner.

Incline is on the north shore of Lake Tahoe in Washoe County, NV. Diamond Peak Ski Resort is a family-friendly skiing and tremendous views of Lake Tahoe. Mount Rose Ski is another ski resort, claiming the highest base elevation of the Tahoe-region at about 8,250 feet. During the summer, the private beaches are beautiful and the Flume Trail Mountain Bike ride is a must-do for mtb'ers with fabulous views of Lake Tahoe.

NORTH TAHOE BEACH The North Tahoe Beach Center is a 2.7-acre site that includes 540 feet of shoreline and is owned by the California Tahoe Conservancy, maintained and managed by California State Parks. It is located at the intersection of Highway 267 and Highway 28. North Tahoe Beach has 3 beach volleyball courts, restroom facilities, and a pavilion. SECLINE BEACH Secline Beach is made up of a number of parcels owned by the California Tahoe Conservancy, Placer County and the North Tahoe Public Utility District. KINGS BEACH STATE RECREATION AREA KBSRA is the flagship beach site in the North Tahoe area. KBSRA's 1,700 feet of lakefront is the largest public access sandy beach on the North Shore of Lake Tahoe. The wide stretch of white sand that makes up Kings Beach is a favorite of visitors and residents alike. Its south facing aspect and a lake floor that gradually deepens, makes this one of the warmest swimming areas on the Lake. The beach is adjacent to the Kings Beach Plaza (see description below). RACOON STREET DOG BEACH & BOAT LAUNCH The Racoon Street Boat Launch is located at the end of Racoon Street in Kings Beach and is owned and operated by California State Parks. The facility includes a boat launch ramp (open when lake levels allow), restrooms and parking for vehicles as well as vehicles with trailers. Parking is limited and available on a first come, first served basis. This area also has some picnic tables in the shady area behind the restrooms. Racoon Street is also the site of the only public dog beach in Kings Beach and Tahoe Vista. This small, rocky beach is located to the east (left if looking at the ramp) of the boat launch. SPEEDBOAT (BUCKS) BEACH Speedboat Beach is a very small beach located at the foot of Harbor Avenue. It has almost no public parking and for that reason is suggested for use by those in the adjacent neighborhoods or those who choose to access the beach by foot, bicycle or public transit. Please obey all signage and No Parking signs. No restrooms or other amenities are provided.

Kings Beach is the epitome of that funky little beach town that seems to never change. Its main road (CA Highway 28) is lined with old-timey hotels, cool shops and a good choice of restaurants. Despite the obvious draw of the royalty-level beach, the name of the town was not based on that accolade. Local lore has it that the name Kings Beach originated from a card shark named Joe King who won the town in a poker match.

Now that Palisades (formally known as Squaw) and Alpine Meadows are connected by tram, this is the best spot to ski. From the condo, Alpine is closer. Park at Alpine and take the gondola over. Or drive the extra five minutes and head into Palisades for the village experience and take the Funitel up (kids are free during the summer!!). During the summer enjoy hiking the falls and taking the Gondola back down.

This historic town in the mountains above Reno was once the world's richest city thanks to the largest gold vein ever mined, the Comstock Lode. Little has changed since those mid-1800s days, and C Street, the main thoroughfare, still looks much as it did decades ago. Among the top sights are the old town cemetery, the Bucket of Blood Saloon, The Castle (the only structure untouched by the fire of 1875), Fourth Ward School, Ponderosa Saloon, and Piper's Opera House. The best way to tour the city is to start at the base of the hill on C Street and work your way upward. This route also affords absolutely stunning views of the surrounding mountains. VC is a must-see for anyone interested in Wild West history.

Winter Ski/Snowboard: Kirkwood Ski Resort near Lake Tahoe is known for its deep snow, high elevation, and challenging terrain that attracts advanced skiers and snowboarders. Summer Disc Golf: Extreme elevation, wide variety of difficulty. Holes range from 250-1200'. Amazing views and a few epic holes. Navigating the course can be difficult for first timers. Use a spotter on hole 16, 1200' with waste high grass. Course meanders through the ski runs.

If you love to ski and love powder head here. Its about an hour and 5 minutes south from the condo. At the Kirkwood Ski Resort you might not experience great views of Lake Tahoe, but Kirkwood CA has so many other pluses such as one of the highest resort snowfalls in the world, and an extensive selection of tricky terrain. Who cares about lake views when you can have powder hound nirvana?! Kirkwood Ski Resort has been undergoing a major metamorphosis and now has the best of both worlds; the conveniences of a destination resort, along with the friendly and relaxed atmosphere you’d expect of a day hill. The new-ish village includes a handful of eateries, bars and other facilities, and developers have also been busy building lots of slopeside condos. Kirkwood CA is still a long way from being a luxury destination resort. “The Wood” is refreshingly simple and most true powder hounds love it that way. If you want to wear your spiffy apres boots to head out shopping for the afternoon, go on a sleigh ride, or go to various bars and restaurants, you won’t find that at Kirkwood. Perhaps go to Northstar or Palisades instead. Kirkwood Ski Resort has 87 marked trails, 2,000 feet (610 metres) of vertical drop, and 2,300 skiable acres (930 hectares). For those who easily get bored (particularly intermediates), there might not be enough terrain to support a week long trip, but Kirkwood Resort is definitely awesome for at least a few days. The Kirkwood ski area has lots of incredibly interesting terrain features. With plenty of ridgeline at the top, Kirkwood has many opportunities to launch off cornices and rock features, and there are also diverse gullies and varied trees. Of course there is a balance of terrain for those who don’t want terrifying chutes and steeps. There is a designated beginner area away from the hoons, and trails for intermediates that aren’t too gnarly despite trail names such as “Ditch of Doom” and “Trench of Terror”! The official trail stats are beginner 12%, intermediate 20%, advanced 38% and expert 30%.

Kirkwood offers pristine mountain scenery and an impressive variety of terrain. Skiers appreciate the resort's peaceful setting; long, wide runs; and open bowls. The resort has an average snowfall of 354 inches a year and a high base elevation of 7,800 feet, which helps ensure a consistent coverage of powdery snow. Kirkwood has 2,300 acres of terrain and 86 trails for skiers and snowboarders accessed by 15 lifts. The longest trail stretches for 2.5 miles. Kirkwood's summit reaches an awe-inspiring 9,800 feet, and the resort is known for its challenging terrain. Only 12 percent of the runs are beginner, 30 percent are intermediate, 38 percent are advanced, and 20 percent are for experts.
