Dance your way through Rio’s samba neighborhood

Experience Brazilian music up close as we dance our way through the Mangueira neighborhood, Rio’s traditional samba stronghold. • We’ll start with a guided visit through the National Museum of Samba, which preserves the history of Afro-Brazilian culture and music. • Next, we’ll visit the famous Quadra da Mangueira music school, where traditional drum rehearsals happen. The school has produced some of Rio’s greatest sambaistas. • We’ll end at Manga Bar, where we’ll share a meal of caipirinhas and my mother's feijoada. That’s when the drummers will start up and the roda de samba will begin, filling the room with good music and a lot of heat and swing. Get to know the Little Africa in Rio de Janeiro

You'll get to know the city area called Little Africa, located in the port area, which was recently revitalized. We will take a three-hour walk and you will get to know important points such as Pedra do Sal, Morro da Conceição, Largo da Prainha and Jardim Suspenso do Valongo. This experience can also be carried out by my team of guides specialized in Afro Turismo: Luana Ferreira, Kelly Tavares, Eddie Vander, Raquel or Ryane. Luana is a tour guide and historian graduated from UERJ - University of the State of Rio de Janeiro. She works with historical-cultural tourism with an emphasis on Afro-referenced storytelling. Kelly Tavares is a tour guide and certified travel agent who has promoted African legacy experiences in Rio de Janeiro since 2013. Edson Vander, but you can call it Eddie. Born in Rio de Janeiro, son of Favela da Babilônia and an expert in Afro narratives centered. Raquel Oliveira is super curious, loves Brazilian food and also loves samba. It will guide you through the paths of Little Africa with great enthusiasm and passion. Ryane was born in the German favela and loves to tell people about her personal experience as a slum and connect with the History of Little Africa. Bring a water bottle and use sunscreen. It's a walking tour in a group up to 4 attendees, in wich we will visit the main tourist attractions in downtown Rio de Janeiro, learning more about the city's history, local culture, and social issues. Your guide, besides having specialized training, has lived in the city since birth and closely follows the recent processes of urban transformation caused by both major events and changes in government. The tour will provide a local perspective on the controversies present in Brazil's main tourist capital. After all, is the city marvelous? From an aesthetic point of view, there is no doubt. But what can we say regarding the dynamics of social relations and their impacts on the urban organization of downtown? We will explore three major regions: Lapa, the Business District and the Port Area. Along the way, we will pass by landmarks such as the Selarón Staircase, Municipal Theater, Portuguese Reading Room, Colombo Cafe, Imperial Chapel, Bank of Brasil Art Center, Olympic Boulevard, Museum of the Future, among others. During the walk, we will encounter buildings that are true icons of Rio's architecture, but also bars, graffiti, occupations, and streets that hold within them the untold history found in books. Little África and the Urban Quilombismo

I propose a relaxed walk through the region popularly known as Little Africa, which is in the seaport area of the City. Relaxed but full of reflections on racism, religious intolerance and about the Carioca culture. A great chat where the exchange of knowledge is always welcome. The walk lasts an average of 2/30 hours. During this period we will pass on tourist attractions that include the Historical and Archaeological Circuit of Celebration of the African Heritage, among others. I will present the region of Gamboa, known in the past as Health. I will also present numerous attractions that can be explored by you after the walk or at another opportunity, according to your disposition and enthusiasm. To make this experience happen, I have the help of Kelly Tavares, Raquel Oliveira, Eddie Vander, Thais Rosa, Larissa Mariana and Ryane Coutinho. They are all specialists in Afrotourism. When I can't be there for you, Kelly, Raquel, Eddie, Thais, Larissa or Ryane will guide you. Other things to note: wear light and fresh clothes, and comfortable shoes. The tolerance time is fifteen minutes. Be punctual!

LGBT history and culture in downtown Rio

You'll get to know a little bit about Brazil's LGBTQ+ history and culture, more specifically Rio de Janeiro, such as the conquest of spaces, the invisibility of the territories and figures important for the construction of the country's culture. We will take a two hour long outdoor walk. We will pass important points for the LGBTQIA+ community such as Cabaret Casanova and Turma Ok, as well as some tourist attractions of the city like Escadaria Selarón and Arcos da Lapa. The nightlife of Rio, the homose considerate of Rio's carnival, the city's urban occupation, among others, will be some topics addressed during the walking tour. We have always been important in building our culture, so we need to preserve and value our history and build our legacy together.
