The Ripley's Believe It or Not! Museum in St. Augustine holds a uniquely significant place in the history of the Ripley's franchise: it is the world's first permanent Ripley's Odditorium. Here are the key details about this historic attraction: The Original Odditorium: The St. Augustine location opened on December 25, 1950, making it the very first and oldest permanent museum dedicated to exhibiting Robert Ripley's collection of strange and unusual artifacts. The view from the top is the best in Saint Augustine. The museum in the old lighthouse keepers cottage is excellent.

It's a short walk over the dunes to the beach, but it's usually quiet, dog friendly and the nicest place to put a chair in the water and read. There are no waves on the inlet side, but don't swim too far out because rip tides definitely happen!

This is near the house and an easy drive/walk/bike down Anastasia Blvd. There is a small fee to enter but the beach is beautiful with 4 miles of pristine white sand. A designated swimming area is monitored by a life guard from Memorial Day to Labor Day. Bicycles, canoes and kayaks can be rented at the concession inside the park. Great day trip for sightseeing and learning more of Saint Augustine's rich history. The Fort Matanzas National Monument has a free ferry ride (spots fill up, so call ahead or get there early) to visit the fort across the river. Note: Ferry ride has been out of commission from time to time due to hurricane damage, so call before you plan your day. But very cool place to visit and worth the trip.

Vilano Beach is our beach of choice. Vilano Beach access is at 2725 Anamha Drive. Cars are allowed on beach if 4x4 from March to Sept. Restrooms, showers, picnic tables and seasonal lifeguards on staff at this portion of the beach. Vilano Beach is so close and is one of the "shellier" beaches in the area and is famous for its shark teeth! Shark tooth hunting is an easy and fun activity to take up. Look for the dark triangular shapes mixed within broken shells and sand on the beach, particularly at the tide line where waves crash onto the shore. You can definitely find your more traditional sandy areas for sand castles too!

A beautiful stretch of coastline just south of St. Augustine Beach, Crescent Beach offers wide sands and a peaceful atmosphere. Crescent Beach is a beautiful stretch of the Florida coast just south of St. Augustine. It gets its name from the natural shape on the coastline. The hard-packed sand lends itself to activities including beach bike rides, walks, frisbee, and volleyball. Visitors can enjoy relaxing on the beach or a family outing or participating in a variety of water sports, like surfing, swimming, and boogie boarding, as well as boating from the marked public access points on A1A. Crescent Beach is a small community with little commercial development. Minimal vehicle beach access is offered at the Crescent Beach Ramp on Cubbedge Road. A nominal access fee for driving on the beach is charged daily from March 1 through August 31 and then only on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday through September. Rules for driving on the beach are clearly posted and are strictly enforced for the safety of beachgoers.
