This Unique Summer House was finished in 2010. This location is in one of the best vacation areas in the country. It is in the middle of the famous Golden Circle Route. The house was built to reflect the Icelandic landscape and complement the small vegetation of moss and trees in the old lava-field. It is a beautiful little gem within a great area of the country. 10 minutes to Geysir 20 minutes to Gullfoss 20 minutes to Skalholt 30 minutes to Kerid 40 minutes to Thingvellir
“Initially attracted by the unusual design of the cottage and its location, we were certainly not disappointed in reality. The cottage proved an excellent location from which we (two couples in early/mid 60s) based our exploration of the Golden Circle and bits of Southern Iceland. A spacious, light, and bright kitchen/diner/sitting room with great views over surrounding countryside particularly as it was covered in snow throughout our visit. An extremely well-equipped kitchen made cooking and eating in a pleasure (a substantial supermarket (Kronan) in Selfoss provided absolutely everything we needed including excellent meat, fish, and fresh produce). This space combined with great insulation/heating, comfortable bedrooms with excellent storage, and a good sized bathroom with shower made for very easy living. The weather during our stay included cloud, rain, snow, cold, wind, occasional sunshine, and a full moon - not ideal conditions for either viewing the Aurora or for lounging in the hot tub. However, the mixed weather did not detract in any way from our visiting and appreciating all the wonderful natural sights that this area of Iceland has to offer. The location is excellent being within the Golden Circle and with the South Coast and Reykjavik within easy driving distance (approx 2 hours depending on road conditions). A few words of advice/caution - a good 4x4 vehicle should be regarded as essential for visits to the Golden Circle, South Coast, and Thingvellir National Park areas at this time of year. We rented a Toyota Land Cruiser which proved to be the perfect vehicle - big, comfortable, well equipped, and very capable in all the weather conditions that were thrown at us. Not cheap to rent but well worth the investment. Palmi proved to be the perfect host. Despite his being in three geographic locations (USA, Portugal, and Norway) during our visit, he was always contactable and responsive via mobile, text, or WhatsApp whenever required irrespective of time zone differences. Upon arrival a telephone call was received from Palmi welcoming us all to his cottage as guests of his family and wishing to ensure that we had the best time possible during our stay. All in all a great cottage and location resulting in an excellent visit with many happy memories - thoroughly recommended.”
FREE WIFI The location is in a beautiful nature reserve, close to the Reykjavik city center (20 min), the Blue Lagoon (40 min), the Golden Circle, Ishestar, a horse riding, Krisuvík, geothermal area and many more. Ideally located for exploring the South West.
“We enjoyed our stay a lot. The cabin is a very cosy and warm place to spend your evenings after exploring Iceland. Location is very convenient, you can easily make multiple day trips to see the south. Katrin prepared a lot of local tips and suggestion for her guests and made sure that we know how to reach our stay safely (we visited in the winter time)! Very nice experience.”
What makes this vacation villa unique is the outdoor scenery and the open view in all directions. The house is standing alone on a prairie, with a clear view to the glacier Eyjafjallajökull, Drífandi waterfall and Vestmannaeyjar islands. The house is designed to capture this, with big windows, transparency, minimalistic architecture and a lot of daylight. The villa is for all year use and is centrally placed on the south coast of Iceland, less than 2 hours drive (126 km) from Reykjavik
“STAY HERE!!! It is utterly stunning, both the house and the surrounding landscape. The many windows frame the landscape beautifully and provide abundant natural light. Particularly love the blue hour light in the evenings. Feels very private. You can see one farm with horses way off in the distance but otherwise it feels like you have the whole landscape to yourself. The thoughtful design features made it cozy and function while adding to it’s beauty. The heated floors were particularly perfect the night of a big snow and wind storm. Stayed nice and cozy all night long. Really hope to return here again in the future.”
