The space
The perfect destination for relaxation and privacy. The house has been fully modernised with gas central heating, double glazing, and hot water on demand. Quality bedding, towels, and tableware are provided to make your stay a home away from home. The kitchen appliances for your comfort include a large fridge freezer, wine cooler, Smeg dual-fuel cooker, washing machine, and dishwasher. There are also plenty of books and games for you to enjoy leisure time with your family and friends.
The cottage was built over 100 years ago as part of the ancient and historical Irish townland of Knocknagulliagh.
The pheasants that give the area its name are frequent visitors to the garden and surrounding area. Other interesting wildlife includes foxes, badgers and many types of garden birds. This comfortable cottage with its well appointed accommodation has panoramic views of Belfast Lough and the Irish Sea. On a clear day you can see Scotland, the Isle of Man and the Mourne mountains. From the bottom of the garden the iconic cranes of the Harland and Wolf Belfast shipyard can be seen in the distance. From the south facing windows and decked patio you can enjoy the ever changing sky and waterway. Relax watching the ships, cruise liners, ferries and various small craft making their way to and from the busy port of Belfast. There is an extensive sunny, private garden with mature trees, plants, flowers, and garden furniture. On a Summer’s afternoon it is great to sit, relax and soak up a bit of sunshine. At night time, you can kick back to enjoy the lights of County Down or the stars in the dark night sky. The cottage is surrounded by acres of farm land with grazing sheep and cattle, so pets unfortunately cannot be accommodated.

Neighborhood highlights

The pretty seaside village of Whitehead is two miles away, with a railway museum, lighthouse, pub, restaurants, independent farm shops, a playground, cafes, and tea rooms. There is plenty of evidence of its Victorian past from the iconic architecture that can be found around its narrow streets. If you love the coast, you’ll love this seaside stay.
The larger harbour town of Carrickfergus is a similar distance, with more amenities, such as large supermarkets, (Tesco extra, Sainsbury and M&S Simply foods) national chain shopping, a cinema and a picturesque esplanade and marina. There are many restarants and food takeaway/delivery services avaiable within the town.
Historical sites include the 12th century Carrickfergus Castle and St Nicholas’ Church. Learn more about the local history during a castle tour or at the Carrickfergus Museum located next to the old courthouse.
The 4th US president Andrew Jackson’s birthplace and cottage/museum is only 3 miles away. The Gobbins coastal path and visitor centre is an 8 minute drive (4.5 miles), with stunning scenery and exhilarating walking tours (must be pre booked). The Local promenades in Carrickfergus, Whitehead, Jordanstown, and Larne are great for a bracing stroll in the sea air, more suitable for those seeking something less strenuous.
