One of the best museums in the Mountain West, and genuinely great for all ages. Utah is one of the richest dinosaur fossil regions in the world, and the exhibits here reflect that. The café has views of the entire valley, worth staying for lunch. Located on the University of Utah campus, about 20 minutes from the house.

Lynn

The Natural History Museum is a wonderful way to spend a morning or an afternoon. The grounds and valley views are fantastic, and that's just the outside! There is an incredible dinosaur section here with one of the largest actual fossil dinosaurs I've ever seen, footprints that you can lie down in and lots of interactive things as well. There is a section that covers the geography of Utah and the geology display is fantastic. The Native American section is also very interesting. The human evolution display is also really interesting. You'll want to make reservations ahead of time. https://nhmu.utah.edu

Lucky 13. So, this place might be tied in my heart for best burger in SLC. Lucky 13 is licensed technically as a bar here (you’ll need your ID to get in), but it is famous for it’s tasty burgers. Plus, it’s just a 0.6-mile walk from the Airbnb! You really can’t go wrong with whichever burger you order, and you know it’s good when it arrives in a plastic basket with a pile of hot garlic fries or onion rings. Be aware…this place can get pretty hopping so I would recommend calling ahead to get a gauge on if there’s a wait or not.

A short walk from the Cottage is a relatively unknown park to many Salt Lake City citizens. It's called Gilgal Gardens. You'll find it between 700 and 800 East on 500 South on the North side of the street (749 East 500 South). This is a strange sculpture garden tucked behind houses and businesses. It was designed and created by Thomas Battersby Child, Jr. a long time serving local Bishop in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Church. Created over time in the mid-twentieth century behind his house it has 12 original sculptures and over 70 stones engraved with scriptures, poems, and literary texts. As a whole, Gilgal Sculpture Garden is significant as the only identified “visionary art environment” in Utah. I lived in Salt Lake City for more than 30 years and didn't even know it existed. There is no admission charge. Walking tour brochures are apparently available at the garden. Usually, open 8 to 8 each day in the Summer. Closed New Year's Day, Thanksgiving and Christmas. https://gilgalgarden.org/ Take a look.

It might be one of the hippest, most vibrant neighborhoods in town, but Sugar House earned its name from the sugar beets first planted here by pioneer settlers a century and a half ago. Since those humble, verdant beginnings, Sugar House has sprouted into one of the most offbeat, colorfully progressive enclaves in the valley. You’ll find plenty of restaurants, bars, breweries, shops, unexpected hangouts, and one big, glorious park with sweeping mountain views. This is a fun mall; there is Cheesecake Factory, California Pizza Kitchen, and if you are into local beers along with decent food, try out Red Rock, I don't imbibe but do like their hot BBQ wings there. H&M, Nordstrom's, Macy's, Apple Store, Lego store, Zara, Victoria's Secret and more. Really good mall
