Hive to Spoon - Honey Bee Experience at Urban Farm
Experience the wonder of honey bees in a beautiful, urban farm setting! Bees are important to our environment and I want to help you learn more about how bees live together in the hive and function as a superorganism. Is your preferred date sold out? Message me! After touring the urban farm and spotting the many pollinators busy collecting nectar and pollen on the flowers, we will move to the honey bee hives where you'll suit up and become a beekeeper with me. This experience is fun and engaging for anyone curious about the secret life of bees or connecting with nature. You don't have to be interested in becoming a beekeeper to have a great time. You will see the bees up close and personal as you hold bees in your hands and look inside the hive. I'll point out the different jobs the bees are doing, explain how they make honey, show you the baby bees and maybe even spot the queen. We'll conclude with a honey tasting including seasonal fruit so you can taste the honey made by the bees you visited. During the honey tasting held near the greenhouse and orchard, we'll talk more about bees, pollination and honey. Other things to note: Please wear full length pants, socks that completely cover ankles and closed-toe shoes. Let me know of any bee, food or honey allergies. You might consider wearing unscented sunscreen and bringing a hat for the farm walk.
Magical llama walk with dogs, goats & flowers
(Dates and times are flexible. I can accommodate most dates and times. ) Each guest will get a llama of their choice to walk with. We will start with snacks and drinks and then go on a full tour of the farm. After seeing all the animal fields we will walk with the llamas on a small forest trail along a running creek. On our walk we will look at some ancient Indian acorn grinding rocks. Cold drinks, a pie & ice cream will be offered on the shady lawn at the end of the tour. In the summer guests could take a refreshing swim in the swimming pool. A small pool is available for young children. Minimum group size is 2. If you are booking just one space, I might have to cancel if there are no additional bookings. My dates, times and group sizes are flexible. Please contact me if you like to schedule something on a specific day or time. Group or school tours are available, please inquire. Other things to note: During the rainy season rain boots are best since the fields can be muddy. Good walking shoes or boots are best during the dry seasons. The walk is on somewhat uneven lawns and pathways so if you have difficulties walking bring a cane or special shoes.
Make friends at a farm animal sanctuary
Join us for a day at the sanctuary and meet a variety of rescued farm animals. We'll share their stories of resilience and healing and also talk about the industries they come from. You'll love meeting our animal ambassadors and may be surprised at what you learn since we so rarely see the animals in our food system. The Experience will last approximately 1.5 to 2 hours. Please be mindful that, as a sanctuary for rescued animals, our priority is the physical and emotional wellbeing of the animals who call Charlie's Acres home. Our animal residents are completely free and always have a choice whether or not they interact with visitors. They will reside at the sanctuary for the rest of their lives, where we'll have the honor of taking care of them. Tours are available in French or Spanish by request. Private tours are recommended for families with young kids. We are operating under current Sonoma County COVID-19 safety guidelines, and protocol is subject to change. Visitors should be prepared to wear face coverings if needed. As the tour is outdoors in open spaces, you'll be able to easily socially distance yourself, just stay close enough to hear instructions from your tour guide. Please note that we do not allow visitors to bring dogs onto the premises. Learn more about what to expect and find answers to frequently asked questions: https://www.charliesacres.org/faq.html

Wine Tour with a Napa Local
This will be a wine tasting experience in Napa Valley, directed by a true Napa local. I'll drive you to two-three wineries (depending on time). The wineries are my favorite local hidden gems. In total, this wine tasting experience will be approximately four hours. Note: winery tasting fees are not included and are paid directly to the wineries.
Five-K Walk of Davis History
We begin and end at Central Park, home of the Saturday morning Farmers' Market and the Hattie Weber Museum of local Davis history and heritage. We will walk and talk a 5K: stops include the Bicycle Hall of Fame, train depot, Putah Creek and the Native American Contemplation Garden, the Mondavi Center for Performing Arts, historical markers including original olive and fig trees from the Davis and Chiles families, the Silo of the University Farm, and more. Learn about the major influences that have shaped Davis: Putah Creek and early inhabitants, the californios and land grants, agriculture/husbandry, the railroad, and the university farm. We will also have the opportunity to see more recent history in development projects and public art along the way. All these places are publicly available for you to visit any time, and yet their rich history is not often heard. When you take time to examine the footprints of the Patwins, rancheros, settlers, fur trappers, judges, artists, administrators, and students who walked in the space over decades and centuries before you, Davis will take on new meaning. Other things to note We WILL be walking ~3.2 mi., so please wear comfy shoes, dress in layers, and bring water. The walk usually takes 2 hours. If you need to shorten it or need to be somewhere after, let me know in advance so I can accommodate you. We meet at Central Park in front of the Hattie Weber Museum on C St.

Artisan Bread & Ancient Grains
Have insights into a medieval bakery; you will join an active bakery that functions much the way bakeries of old Europe used to work five or six hundred years ago: local grains ground in a stone mill (alas, powered now by solar power); natural levains perpetuated for generations, a wood fired oven - and Dorian and Carmina's hands to mix, knead, shape and bake hearty loaves and pastries. You have the chance to see how local grains, fruits, dairy, olive oil, wine and vegetables can be used for sustainable living.
