Food Scene

We love the grill at the marina. You wouldn't even know it was there unless you asked and it may or may not be open depending on whether the cook chooses to work that day. BUT, one of our favorite things to do is to order a hamburger, grab a cold whatever we feel like drinking that day from the cooler, a bag of Zapps chips and sit on one of the picnic tables under the awning and watch the boats come and go. Typically closes at 2 - on the days the cook shows up. 5 minutes away.

Very nice especially on the patio in the evening. Lots of interesting selections and a great bar.

Owned by two chefs who used to run one of the other better restaurants, Cafe Milano, this is a great place mostly for lunch but dinner is a treat too. Just really like the place. Recommend.

We like this place just because we like saying the name. Its literally on the water, very casual and very good. Not on Bayou Dularge but rather on Grand Cailliou.

Parks & Nature

We are on 70 acres that is yours to enjoy. Sit along the bayou with a cane pole and catch some perch. Take the pirogue (small boat unique to this area) out for a paddle but be careful, staying upright in a pirogue take a little practice. Or walk to the back the levee and canal that separates the land from the marsh. Don't be surprised if you're out there in the winter and hear a shotgun blast. Its just the duck hunters across the levee. Picnics, campfires (please ask us first) and other time tested outdoor activities are encouraged.

Arts & Culture

If you want to get a compressed yet accurate view of who we are and why we live here, the Waterlife Museum is a great place to stop. Say hello to Ms Pearl for us and enjoy.

Essentials

We call the Dollar General our Dularge Walmart because it has pretty much anything you need. It has a surprisingly well stocked assortment of groceries and even cold beer. For a step up we recommend Rouse's on St Charles Ave in Houma. Great store with lots of fun and interesting stuff. Also fresh meats and produce that DG won't have.

Entertainment & Activities

We recommend checking with the tourist commission as they will know of any activities, fairs and festivals going on while you are here. Always lots of fun.

Getting Around

Car rentals are not really a big deal here as they are in metro areas but we do have them. Also look up Good Earth Transit that runs a bus line throughout the area. Gotta wait at the stops but an easy way to get around. Likely will need to walk to whatever your final destination is however. Car is the way to go here.

Sightseeing

Ardoyne may be one of the most beautiful settings you will ever see. The home is gorgeous, the ancient oaks magnificent and the owner, descendants of the founding family, are as gracious and as warm as it gets. Definitely go.
