“Last of the handmade jewelry”So much is represented as "hand made" these days when, many times, it is not. Refreshing to find such lovely jewelry in this small shop whose owner has been honing his craft for 59 years and is now training his son to carry on the tradition. They took the time to show us how they work the silver to create each piece of filigree, obviously proud of what they do as they deserve to be. Reasonable prices and a nice way to remember a charming city.

If you want to know what the real Fresh Catch of the Sea are, you must visit the Fish Market. It is quite clean and is busy with locals buying their meals. We saw many live jumping shrimps, scampi and sardines coming right off from the fishing boats. Squids, Monk Fish, Calamari, Sea Eel, etc. It sure is a sight to take in. It closes early though, so be there early.

The Cathedral of Saint Domnius (Croatian: Katedrala Svetog Duje), known locally as the Saint Dujam (Sveti Dujam) or colloquially Saint Duje (Sveti Duje), is the Catholic cathedral in Split, Croatia. The cathedral is the seat of the Archdiocese of Split-Makarska, headed by Archbishop Marin Barišić. The Cathedral of St. Domnius is a complex of a church, formed from an Imperial Roman mausoleum, with a bell tower; strictly the church is dedicated to the Virgin Mary, and the bell tower to Saint Domnius. Together they form the Cathedral of St. Domnius. The Cathedral of Saint Domnius, consecrated at the turn of the 7th century AD, is regarded as the oldest Catholic cathedral in the world that remains in use in its original structure, without near-complete renovation at a later date (though the bell tower dates from the 12th century). The structure itself, built in AD 305 as the Mausoleum of Diocletian, is the second oldest structure used by any Christian Cathedral.

"Walking Tour of Split" Diocletian's Palace was used as a location for filming the fourth season of the HBO series Game of Thrones. Diocletian's Palace (Croatian: Dioklecijanova palača, pronounced [diɔklɛt͡sijǎːnɔʋa pǎlat͡ʃa]) is an ancient palace built by the Roman emperor Diocletian at the turn of the fourth century AD, that today forms about half the old town and city center of Split, in Croatia. While it is referred to as a "palace" because of its intended use as the retirement residence of Diocletian, the term can be misleading as the structure is massive and more resembles a large fortress: about half of it was for Diocletian's personal use, and the rest housed the military garrison. Diocletian built the massive palace in preparation for his retirement on 1 May 305 AD. It lies in a bay on the south side of a short peninsula running out from the Dalmatian coast, four miles from Salona, the capital of the Roman province of Dalmatia. The terrain slopes gently seaward and is typical karst, consisting of low limestone ridges running east to west with marl in the clefts between them.

Address: Ulica Kralja Tomislava | 15, Split, Croatia Located in a beautifully reconverted old hospital just outside Split's Iron Gate, the Gallery of Fine Arts provides a comprehensive history of Croatian art from the Middle Ages to the present. Curators have arranged selection from the gallery's massive collection in themed rooms in rough chronological order. While such masters as Vlaho Bukovac, Emanuel Vidovic, Ignat Job and others may be unfamiliar to Western art aficionados, a good deal of the work can stand its own with that of more commonplace . It's fascinating to observe the way Croatian artists observed, adapted and transformed major trends, then set their own standards of excellence in the experimental Fifties and Sixties and beyond. The ground floor of the gallery is dedicated to new artists, and especially worth a look if time is tight.

The underground caverns of the palace are a must see. Keeping in mind that during Diocletian's days, there was no floor and the underground was under water (was constructed so the palace itself was on an even plane as the Emperor was 'god-like' and not to go up stairs. The Archaeological Museum Split is a very interesting museum for ancient Roman and Greek art lovers. The ticket is very cheap, only 3 EUR, and what I especially like: you can take pictures ! The garden of the museum is very beautiful, full of Ancient Roman statues, Egyptian sphinx, mosaics, amphora's.... and even inside you can see all kinds of Roman and Greek jewelry, coins, sculptures, vases, swords, tools ....The archaeological museum is placed in a beautiful building not far from the city center. Although not big there are many important artifacts from Salona and Spalato sites. Impressive collection of mosaic floors, sarcophagi and sculpture.

Worth a detour from Split. Huge area and only part excavated. Fascinating groups of churches and sarcophagi as well as amphitheater. It is a small city by river surrounded with amazing nature and clean air. We liked the most the fact that it is only 7 minutes from Split but still quite and very comfort area.

Bene is okay and has amenities, but for a nicer beach, take the #12 bus all the way to Bene. Then walk along the road along the northern part of the peninsula. Just 5-10 minutes will take you to some lovely, quiet beaches, not too crowded with shade, free showers. Our favorite is in a small cove near the bridge/tunnel. Rocky shore, gives way to pebbles and then a sandy bottom. Crystal clear water and a view of the Kastela towns to the north.

"Hvar Island" Carpe Diem is a great place in the day & in the evening. It is situated right on the beach so ideal for all day drinking & sunbathing. They have DJ during the day playing some tunes.

Cineplexx in City Centre One is the best movie theatre in Split at the moment. It keeps the high level and hope they will continue so. It is all well organised by now, leaving for guests to enjoy the movies in peace.
